is it required or beneficial? there are some diagrams that show it plugged up and some attached to the intercooler. when i start the car right now, it idles stupid rich. like 10.8-11.0. im wondering if thats my problem.

The atomization port will help you lean out the idle. It was designed to introduced a small amount of unmetered air directly to each port. As far as line routing, it just needs connected anywhere before the throttle body and after the turbo.
Your issue can also be attributed to injector choice. I was running aftermarket Bosch 850cc primaries and also had issues with leaning out my idle when the port was plugged. Since, I moved to Bosch EV14 720cc's and have had no issues. The newer body style injector has way more control and better atomization.
