V bands?

I have a Garret turbo 60-1, I think it has a v band fitting on it but I can't tell, there is a peice of pipe weilded over then end.
A) how can i get this pipe off?
B) is there a way i can find out if indeed it is a V-Band without getting the pipe off?

here a links to pictures, dailup beware.

That's not a v-band, looks like someone got cheap and just welded the pipe right on there. Probably take a cutting torch and a grinder to get it all off cleanly.

NOT a v-band.

I can't see the bead from the weld, but it's definitely not a v-band.

You can get v-band flange for around $35 or so and weld it on there since the pipe looks to be mild steel.
Or you can get a bolt patterned flange and weld it on there.

i know the pipe isn't a v band, but i think the iron housing below it is. How the heck do i get that mild steel pipe off to find out whats under it?

I think we need a better picture of it, like a angle shot.

I don't see anything that even looks like a v-band flange under the pipe. Maybe the pictures just suck?

I don't think there is any way that's a v-band. Here is a pic of mine that IS a v-band. Looks nothing alike... notice the extra lip on the exhaust side? That's the band flange...

To me it looks like someone jammed/welded a tube on the end of the turbing housing instead of welding on a V-band flange.

Just take the piece or pipe off and purchase BOTH V band flanges from TURBONETICS with the clamp , You then weld the macnined steel flange to the housing where that length of pipe is now , and weld the TUBE flange to your down pipe .

Somone mentioned awhile back a source for v-band clamps that seemed really cheap. Anyone remember that thread? I need to get a clamp for mine...
