Turning boost down on wastegate, screw counter clockwise or clockwise?

I keep boosting 17lbs with my KAI and it's pissing me off.

I backed the screw as far as I could and it's still wants to boost too much.

What's the deal here?Did I get stuck with a high boost spring or what?Or am I just screwing the screw the wrong way?

ps,I have the HKS GT Wastegate

First off, make sure you have the boost controller properly hooked up. If you don't plumb the vacuum lines to the wastegate right (and I've seen some WEIRD attempts at plumbing 'em in) you'll have problems.

Typically, backing out the screw lowers the boost - as you turn the screw in, you're preloading the spring and increasing the spring rate, raising your base boost setting.

It also just might be a stiff spring in the wastegate.

Well my screw is back out as far as it will go without falling out and I have no boost controller so I'm thinking I have a stiff spring.

Does threading the screw in increase your boost? If so, it probably means you've got the stiff spring. If not, then look to your vacuum routing!

HKS usually sends the T51R kits w/ 17lb springs so, thats the minium you'll run. Im running the HKS 50mm wastegate with a 14.2 lb spring. Jason (RX7store) sells different springs. You can go all the way down to a 10lb. spring, but be advised whatever you run it will effect your spool up on your turbo.
I was running a 10lb spring and swithed to the 14lb one and it spooled twice as fast. Also, you can only run
1 1/2 times the spring rate. So if you have a 10lb spring you can only run a max of 21 lbs. Food for thought.
