It's very similar to installing an MSD 6A or Crane Cams HI-6.

I wouldn't recommending mounting it in the hatch, as the extended wires could cause interference.&nbsp It also needs to be cooled somewhat.

MSD digital 6 or MSD DIS 6? Because I'm not sure they make a DIS 6. But if your talking about the MSD Digital 6 then you just find the two wires that go into your leading coil and follow the instructions from the www.msdignition.com

Hey Resource.

I just ordered a MSD DIS-2, Digitial 6, 2 Blaster SS coils, And 1 twin post motorcycle coil.

I going to use the twin post for the leading and the blaster ss coils for the trailing. I should have it tomorrow and i will do a little write up on the install.

i will also take some pics of the install so you guys could see. I will be mounting the boxes under the hood where the battery was. Im gonna try to make a bracket of some sort to mount the coils in the stock location. I'll let you how it turns out.

No, it's more like he broke the "rules".

For some reason I knew this was going to come up...

I just want to replace every stock ignition part with MSD stuff. The Msd coils got to be better then the stock ones. I've seen people use the motorcycle coils on some race cars with direct fire ignition, thats where i got that idea from. And im sure the Digi 6 and DIS 2 should be more the enough spark.

I was just measuring up to see where i can mount all this stuff. Dam it's gonna be pretty tight.

I don't see any problem with mounting them in the hatch as long as you're careful where you route the wires and make sure they are insulated nicely.

I think if you read deeply into the MSD instructions they advise you to keep the wiring short, at least thats the way its been with every MSD part I have ever used..
My gut feeling says that using an ignition amplifier and then adding 10 miles of wire to it, is sort of defeating the purpose..Max

I agree with Ted, especially after I've dealt with radiated emissions with electronics.

You will have a big chance of conducted emissions or cross talk if you have a set of long wires for your MSD set-up (especially the trunk). If you didn't affect the ignition from another device (which some barely pass FCC), then I'm sure another device may receive cross talk or interference.
You also increase impedance with longer wire and signal attentuation.

You can take a risk and mount it in a location just because somebody did it or use your own judgement and research it. How come stock cars mount their ignition components so close to the engine (even having coils on top of the sparkplugs like my 4Runner)?

Gordon could be lucky or could be set-up for interference in an inopportune time. I'd say it's risky, even with mil spec'd wiring to mount your ignition amplifier in the back of the car (unless the engine is there).

Well i just got done making some brackets to mount these bad boys. I made a plate that fits into the stock location for the coils. It's so tight it barely fits. Looks like something mazda designed. (lol)

I made another plate that mounts to the drivers side frame rail, where the battery was originally. I mounted the Digital 6 and DIS-2 there. looks pretty good too.

Anyhow there wasn't any other place i could fit these things. No wonder some people just mounted them in their hatch. I didn't want to do that so i grabbed my tig welder and off i went. Now i just need to get these things wired up.

I took some pics.

Nice Enzo! I purchased the Blaster coils but they are going to take up way more room then the coils You bought so I will have to put them some place else. I also was thinking of putting the ignition boxes there but with My headlight conversion I have enough room under the East Bears. Looks good, and much easier then running the wires from the hatch.
