is this turbo worth it?

I have a chance to buy a brand new garret turbo from a guy near me. he says it is used on 7.3 liter diesel truck motors. the model # is: 1831454C92
the serial # is: CAL24353

the turbo is pretty big, and the guy wants next to nothing for it. does anybody know which garret turbo this is? anyone have any specs on it? or know if it's worth me buying?

it has a V-band clamp to attach it to the exaust manifold if this helps any....

thanx

Do a search on this, I remember a while back (few months at least) there was a thread on teh fors powerstroke diesels. I think you will find that it is a T04E of some kind.

I think its just best to get a turbo that you know performs. If you get this turbo, considering your car does not have a constant, you will not know where any issues are. You might blame them on tuning etc when it could just be the turbo.

If they person would let you 'test' it on your car, that would be great.

Kinda on/off topic, but have anyone used the ford powerstroke intercoolers in their RX-7s? I see a lot on ebay, and other than the tight end tanks, they look great. Does anyone know how they perform?

As long as the specs of the turbo are ok for his setup it should work well.

Have you tried calling Turbonetics? Blue Ribbon out in Farmingdale may know what it is.

I think I have an idea as to what it is, but I'll need a picture to be sure. Are you going to Englishtown this weekend? I'm supposed to go on Sunday. Somebody there may know what it is.

From the look of the part number, it sounds like its from the garrett turbocharger family. The #182... series are usually used for 6L desel on Fords... I assume the 183 should be even bigger. Their turbine side is about the right size to use for a rotary, this just might work~
