Turbo Selection

Restoring my 1995 RX7 and have decided to go single turbo. I am currently looking at a GT45R, I will be using a divided manifold with dual wastegates.
My goal is 550-650 HP and keeping the car street able, engine is a Semi Pp with street port built by pineapple racing,
Would the GT45R be a good choice or will I end up regretting it for my goals?

Turbo is way to large for that.

Here is a G40-900 for example( not a semi pport, but its in your power goals)

You could use the G40-1050 also if you wanted to run less boost, generally a high powered turbo however, most of our customs are making 700+rwhp with it.

That is about where I want to be power wise, I am not wanting to be the fastest but have a reliable car for the occasional event/cars and coffee etc.

Thank you!

If you want 650 on a dyno dynamics or mainline go to the 71mm inducer G40-1150, that's overspeed territory on the G40-900.

agreed on the G40-1150, but I can also see a G42-1200C with 1.01 divT4 working too if it somehow becomes a cost efficiency option (barely used, on sale, etc.).

it also has a pretty fat center island 78% efficiency. a slightly higher 77% turbine efficiency (vs. 76% G40), and would be on par with the largest G40 1.19 divT4 turbine flow capacity if going for the high end of the goal; 650whp, or more in the future (86+ lbs/min).

Great results! Do you have any 100–200 km/h or 60–130 mph times for this car? I’m planning to run a G40-900 with a 1.19 T4 and the Turblown UIM (excesive lim), and I’m curious what it could do with the turbo maxed out. Was the G40 maxxed at 23-24psi or did it have more to go?

I’m not looking for max HP, but more along the lines of just a fun to drive car that can move if need be. I don’t want to have something I can’t take to say the tail
of the dragon if I wanted to.

budget is a concern as I am way deep into this restoration as I have replaced every seal, screw etc that was available from Mazda or Aftermarket with some bubble tech upgrades as well.

what would be some budget turbos with similar performance/characteristics as the G40-900 ?

BW S369SX-E maybe, or S363 on the lower end, maybe S366 in the middle of your range

BW EFR options won’t be cheap, someone else will need to input for other brands.
