single turbo kit???

hey im gonna single turbo my fd with a street ported motor but im not sure what application would be best for me. i want to produce high horsepower numbers but i also want it to stay a street driven vehicle. i was looking at the t88 turbo kit on rx7 .com but im not sure if that would be too much for a street port motor, on top of being a street driven car. any recomendations or advice would be great. thanks

This has been covered numerous times in the single turbo section. What kind of hp numbers do you want?? It seems when you start getting over 500whp you start getting street ability issues. If you want less than that i would just get a GT35R, T04R, or a T78

Just get the gt35r. Awesome street turbo. I made 402rwhp at 15psi of boost.

I second the GT35R, but if you're looking for more streetable power, look into an A-Spec 500R kit.

ok so in between the GT35R, T04R, and T78 from what youve told me i should lean more towards the gt35r for a street driven car. what are some of the pros and cons for the other turbos?

The GT35R is a ball bearing CHRA while the other two are not. All three of the turbos mentioned should have the capablility of reaching your HP goals. The gt35r will probably be the most expensive out of the three with a little less HP potential and quicker response. I have heard great things about the A-spec 500R as well which should deliver more power than the GT35R with close to the same boost response time. The downside to ball bearing turbos is their price and the cost of rebuild. All of the mentioned turbos are very popular and if you do a search you can find numbers people are getting out of them and find prices. That should help you decide what your looking for.

at the same time you want your car to be streetable... But what exactly is streetable to you? Most high horsepower FD's are quite laggy which to some that's unacceptable for the street. Many have a really peaky power band too. That's why the GT35/40 is great single. You can get about 370 RWHP (12 psi) by 3500 RPMs. That's an awsome powerband for the street.

What mods do you have in your car already? Have your ever ridden in an 400+ RWHP FD? There was a thread a while back where people with high HP FD's claimed that their car was funnest in the streets when they were at around 350 RWHP.

the lagg i can exept. im not lookin for crazy fast spooling to get on the car every other turn. i would just like a high hp fd that is street drivable. the lagg difference wont bother me. i have a mild street port motor with non sequential twins running about 11 psi , i have an enfini y pipe and a smic also. i found that once i went non sequential it was pointless i should have just gone single because the lagg is right in the same rpm range as a larger turbo would be in. 370hp by 3500 rpms sounds awsome to me

It seems to me that what ecu you should get depends on who is tuning it. If the person that is going to be tuning your car is most comfortable using the power fc, then get the power fc etc. Power fc's can be had for really low prices now too.

It doesn't matter how nice of a engine/turbo kit etc, if its not tuned well its not going to be anywhere near its potential in spool time, driveability and power.

Based on all of this, I would say get a T-78 or the GR67 kit:
