Turbo question (holes on compressor inlet)

i'm sure the information is in the boards somewhere, but i wasn't sure how to go about searching it..

i was wondering what those small holes do on the inlet of this turbo:

it's a massive (by my standards) to4z supporting 750 hp, i was wondering what they do and if they are specific to the larger turbos. i assume that they are some sort of variable vane or something to decrease spool time.

thanks in advance
