Turbo inlet suggestion

My TD07 has a 4" compressor inlet.. currently I have a K&N filter attached directly to it.. unfortunately because of the manifold design. and the fact that I am using the stock fan/shroud combo, the filter sits right next to the fan shroud.. it actually has to be bent slightly away from it to clear the shroud..half of the filter butts right up to the shroud.. I thought about using a short length of 4" 45degree tube to try and get the filter away from the shroud and closer to the area behind the headlights.. for one thing, I can get it to suck in a touch cooler air, but also expose more area of the filter that can actually suck in air.. however I don't think I'm going to have the clearance with a hard pipe to do this..
I have seen various pics on the net of people utilizing a flexible rubber tube, much like a dryer vent tube, in order to locate the filter away from the compressor housing... however I am unsure of the type of hose that I can use for this application.. obviously it has to be flexible enough to clear the shroud, but also have high enough wall strength that I don't end up collapsing the tube or worse, sucking it into the compressor.. it also has to be able to withstand high underhood temps...
My search on the net has turned out nothing that I can find that is suitable for this task.. would anyone have any suggestions as to what type of hose I could use and where I can purchase it?

thanks,
Chris

Come on, get rid of that piece-of-**** stock fan.
If you went electric fan, this would not be a problem.

You can buy this stuff at Ecco heating on 58th ave, or Elgin sheet metal..
It comes in other colours to...
I think its minimum 25' length, they migh have some scrap laying around though..
It works on the inlet of 25 hp fans in the cheese plant, so it will probably hold up ok on your Td07..Max

Buy Santoprene TPR hose from mcmaster.com. I used it with the stock primary turbo for years and it was still good (flexible, not crumbling, etc.) when I took it out. I got the idea from someone else (see scuderiaciriani.com for the old posts about replacing the primary inlet), and I know other folks have been running it for many years as well. I've never heard of any problems with it. I got some 90mm stuff for my RX-6 and used that for a while. I've got a 4" inlet on my new turbo, so I will either be doing hard pipes or get some more Santoprene hose in 4". 4" black hose is part # 53145K67. You can buy it in as little as 5 foot sections, it comes in black or white, it comes in many standard and metric sizes, it's cheap (<$5/foot in black 4"), it won't collapse (supported by spiral wire), it won't degrade and get sucked into your compressor, it's very flexible. It's perfect for turbo intakes.

Although I enjoy the extra space that an electric fan gives, The last time I ran an electric fan, I actually noticed a drop in my afr everytime it came on.. (I can only assume it was because of the current draw from the fan reducing fuel pump voltage) ... this sometimes happened when I was on boost.. that really turned me off on the idea of using an electric fan...

It's actually bad grounding.
