Turbo fitment on RHD 1st Gen

Hi all,
Going to have the garage to myself for a couple weeks around Christmas and I'm looking to get some more power for my 1985 RX7. Currently it has a stockport 12A in it, and I've been considering two main options; either Bridgeport the 12a, or swap in a Turbo 2. Having searched around for a while, I haven't really found much info on the ability to fit a turbo between the engine and frame on a RHD car. For context, this still has the stock steering box.

From mocking it up in my mind, it would have to be a custom turbo manifold and the runners would have to come up and pretty far forward, as I don't see anyway for a turbo to fit next to or above the steering box.

Does anyone have any previous experience with RHD turbo 1st gens and information on fitement? Your knowledge would be extremely helpful.

Many thanks

Join ausrotary.com and have a dig around in tech section and people's build threads. Also look at manifold designs/turbo kits from Australian workshops.

If there is nothing wrong with your 12a I'd be tempted to buy a dizzy post CAS or an FFE crank trigger kit to suit it, an auto counterweight and flywheel/clutch package to suit whatever robust gearbox you can adapt from local supply, FC3S turbo boxes second hand don't represent good value these days, I'd rather buy a steel bellhousing and tremec TKO or T56 magnum or a new from Toyota Supra 5 or 6 speed.

Interesting, I'm not looking for massive HP here, maybe 250-300 wheel. Just enough to spin the tyres when you're not expecting it and get a little boogie down. Are those sorts of power goals achievable with the stock 9.4 rotors? I'm a bit worried about detonation at those sorts of compression ratios. I'd also like to not delve into auxiliary injection, the more fluids I've got to fill this car up with, the less I'm going to want to drive it.
