Which turbo (FD3S)?
So I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times, but when I put turbo into the search function I get a lot of hits and wading through the threads is a little daunting. Basically it's starting to look like my turbo is starting to go, blue smoke when coming out of boost. My FD came with a single already on it and I figure if I have to go through the work I might as well get a turbo better suited for me. The car is my DD, I know I'm crazy, I'd like to auto cross it on occasion when the car is strong enough and maybe a track day here and there, maybe once or twice a year. I enjoy getting on the freeway, so I'm looking for a good street turbo with a fast spool. I've not had to buy a turbo in over 10 years so I'm getting a little behind with all the brands and numbers. It seems the one I've seen mentioned the most is the GT35R but an input on the matter I'm more than happy to listen to.

It depends on what your current setup is. If you are looking to just swap out the turbo, then you need to make sure that you get something that is compatible with your current manifold and downpipe. If your current turbo is journal bearing and only oil cooled, then a swap to a ball bearing turbo will require the addition of coolant lines. Depending on the size of your current wastegate, that may need to be changed with a larger/better flowing turbo....

all of the turbos mentioned above are good options but one turbo that would work very well for you should also get a mention...
Borg Warner's GT35 equivalent
Borg is a world class Global OE turbo manufacturer so OE build and design quality is assured.
while the S300 (part number 177272 and 177280) is not a ball bearing, it does deliver certain rotary friendly advantages, especially w re to the hotside.
rotaries require almost 30% more low to produce equal power to a piston motor. further, they by virtue of their amazing peripheral exhaust port, produce a higher exhaust temperature.
add these factors together and you quickly appreciate larger turbo hotsides for our rotaries.
the GT35 has a 5.1 average area turbine wheel... pretty small for the 6.3 compressor.
the TDX61, recognising this handicap, swaps in a P trim turbine wheel... 5.89 sq inches
the Borg Warner S300 turbine measures 6.31
all 3 turbos have approximately the same size compressor w the possible edge to the TDX61 since it is billet rather than cast.
you do not mention your budget...
if you are limited you will want to check pricing on the various options. BTW, i believe Turblown does offer the BW option.
again, not knocking any of the turbos mentioned, just wanting to complete the list.

Comes down to what you already have.
There are many turbo's that can fit your criteria.
smaller side EFR 7670.
medium size Precision 6266, TDX61, S300.
And possibly the ultimate EFR 8374

Unfortunately there is no writing on the current turbo to tell me what it is, but looking at kits I've seen online it looks like I have the XS Engineering T04 kit. I believe I saw a HKS stamp on the manifold so I think that gives me a T3/Tr flange

Now that we got out the way, I today i received my BorgWarner Airwerks S300SX3-63, S363,
and the turbo inlet face downward so which means it's not gonna bolt up to my current setup to the I/C, next is the downpipe, i was told that s366 fit XS Engineering mani? not sure on that? It's not gonna be a simple swap imo.

considering that the 60-1 is identical to what you currently have (HKS TO4S) that would be an easy answer...
a 5.64 sq inch compressor w a P trim (5.89) sized hotside.
about 450 max rw rotary hp.
not a bad turbo given it was designed, uh, a while ago.

As an owner/operator of an EFR 7670, I can attest that it's the best turbo I've had. Granted I've only had stock twins and a 500R in the past, lol, but this one has the spool that I always dreamed of. A great mix of the spool of the stock twins with the power of a single. I'll never go back. Unless, of course, I step up to the 8374 lol. But I'm sticking with EFR, that's for sure. It's a good bit of money, but worth every penny.

Possible to Rotate compressor Housing?
Hey guys I don't make a new post since we are on this topic, I want to referred back to my statement about the BWs363 compressor hosing facing downward. Is it possible to rotate it to face upward instead downward? See attach picture, Also will it throw off the balance of the turbo?

Unless you are on a strick budget this makes no sense.
Our TDX61 and this turbo share the exact same parts, except we use a billet GT35R compressor wheel. Back to back dyno tests on multiple cars at both high and low boost show about 4% power gain over the cast GT35R wheel. The Cast GT35R wheel outflows the 60-1 considerably.
Not to mention our TDX turbos are all water cooled, even if journal bearing. Usually the 60-1 are oil cooled only.
Lastly our turbos are not assembled in Mexico, and I have NEVER had a bad one out of the box.
Don't take the above as a slam, I am not only speaking to you, but others who are reading this thread.

You'll also want to do this to ensure that your oil feed and drain ports are facing the correct way.
