MI Turbo Education Needed.

Hi all. I would like to read some good articles on turbo design. I would like to get a better handle on the terminologies associated with turbo talk. Rather than run in 6 different directions, I am looking to this forum for advice. My project is; 87 TII rebuild. Inplanted is a rebuilt 93 13b RE with an agressive streetport. (Banzai racing). I am running 720cc/1600cc injectors. I will be premixing fuel. Upgraded fuel pump. 3" Racing Beat exhaust. I will be running the Power FC ems. Many of the details have not been decided yet but would like to get some of my turbo sizing decided asap. I am seriously considering the Garrett T04Z. Any input from this forum is always appreciated.

start with the stickey's ("compressor map illiterate" thread)

and read this one:

https://www.rx7club.com/single-turbo-rx-7s-23/official-turbo-nomenclature-guide-796257/

the T04Z is a ball bearing version of the Garret/HKS T04R aka Garrett T67 (NOT the Greddy/Mitsu T67). do some searches on that.

Definitely the compressor map illiterate as pointed out by arghx: https://www.rx7club.com/single-turbo-rx-7s-23/how-size-matters-compressor-map-illiterate-zero-r-472529/

There's some decent reading on Garrett's website, http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...ch_center.html

And then of course there's Corky Bell's book, I haven't read it but I've heard it's good, but to be taken with a grain of salt.

And lots of maps, and some decent calculators here: http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/turbotech.html

But keep in mind, most things about turbochargers, CFM, lbs/min and HP relate to piston engines. The calculator above accounts for 8.26 hp per Lb/min of air, where a rotary is more like 7.5-7.7 hp per lb/min of air. Things to keep in mind.
