Turbo Comparison Question
I am looking to replace my stock twins in my fd. I have my selection narrowed down to GT35R, GT40R, or the T-88. I have been reading previous posts and people were saying that the GT35R spools quicker than the T-78 and people recommend the GT35R over the T-78, but how does the T-88 compare to the GT35R or even the GT40R? Is the GT40R worth the extra money compared to the GT35R? Let me know your opinions on these three turbos.

the T88 doesn't compare with the 35R at all...2 totally different turbos. define what your goals are and it will pretty much answer the question for you.
35R is a great street turbo, good spool, decent power capacity.
40R is like the T78 mixed with a 35R...spools relatively quick and can make big numbers.
T88 is for dyno queens and 1/4mi junkies.

im looking for a good street turbo that will give me the highest HP. How many hp will the GT35R put out? I read on another thread that the GT40R will do 650 hp, is this true? Because I'd like to get my fd up to 600+ hp sometime, but it will be used mostly on the street.

If you want 600+, I would recommend a GT42R...but there's no way you're going to make 600+ on pump gas no matter what turbo you run...
Not to be a dick, but what are you going to do with a 600+ hp car on the street? I don't think it would be much fun to drive. I think you need to give some thought to your goals and what you need to achieve those goals. A turbo that will make 600+ whp will not be considered a "good street turbo" by most.

So is it fair to say you get about 400 hp from the GT35R? Ok, lets say I'm looking for about 400-450 hp from a street turbo. How do the GT35R and GT40R compare? What other turbos are considered good street turbos? What about HKS turbos, would they be a good street turbo?

the Greddy T78/T88 and the GT35R are totally different turbos that behave differently. Street car=35R Race Car=T78/T88 (or a bigger GT series turbo like a 42R)

Well, my two pence worth and once again i may be wrong. I am seting up a to4r just to be in the 500 range. now, i am speaking theory, since i am still purchasing the stuff. However its not just the turbo....u will need the uprated fuel system, IC, Managment, ignition etc.... then yes, i dont see why you wont make you target and close. i have my doubts if you can ever get that power from pump gas.
I reckon and i stand to be corrected, that a to4r with the relative porting and air ratios should get you 500+.
Regards
George
ps, all this said is for having the benefit of a street turbo....

so what is the performance difference between the GT35R and the GT40R? I know the GT35R is a good street turbo, but what about the GT40R? Or is that more of a race turbo?

lets throw a Turbonetics 60-1 and 62-1 into the mix, I've heard mixed reviews on the 62-1 but nothign but good things about the 60-1. I'm shooting for 400-450 whp at around 15-18psi on the street with 93 pump gas.
