TO4R thoughts?

Hey, okay I am looking into building an engine... And the turbo I get will depend on the build. I was thinking of going with a half bridge port or an very large extended street port or a race port. Depending on this I was wondering which turbo to use. I haven't really found that much info on the HKS TO4R kit specs or how it runs or when people can expect to get full boost by. So I was wondering would this turbo be a good choice for any of these engine ports. If not what would be a good choice. And don't just say the GT35/40 because I want to have the possibility of producing more power than that turbo seems to be capable of putting out.

O yeah got an FD

Thanx in advance

Edan

do a search, for soul assasin, Alfred has a bridgeported TO4R set up, his sig says 620whp. BTW the car is beautiful as well, red RE2K kit. I think a TO4R would be great on a large streetport as well. Carl Byck

he used to have a t04r with 1.15 A/R or something like that, I think he only had secondary bridgeport at that time
so it wasnt the same as what he's talking about, a normal t04r with streetport. his was a more extreme setup, but still very nice

What I was wondering is if this turbo would work better on a more extreme kind of port than just a simple street port.

And I was also wondering if anyone actually ran the HKS TO4R setup. And if no one does. Why not?

I've got a T04R and am very happy with it. I don't find it too laggy at all, boost comes on smoothly at 3500rpm but it really start to haul at 5000.

I'm told you need to run 20psi or more to get the most out of these turbos.

my exhaust housing is 0.87 a/r with the cutback HKS wheel (as they come). The Manifold is HKS stainless steel, wastegate is HKS 50mm.

I'm not sure on the internals of my engine... all I know is that it was rebuilt by r-magic in japan before I bought the car.

Would this turbo compare to a t66 or a t70. How about the supposed Gt40BB which hasn't come out. How does the to4r from HKS match up. When can you expect boost for each of the turbos say on a large streetport or a race ported engine. What about power curve.

If these questions can't be answered just how does it match up to the t66.

Hey Guys, ny bat finally arrived from japan....

I am interested in how much boost you guys have had good success with from the to4r...

Mine is a 97 RZ, has been set up very well, couldn't have asked any more, pristine condition and only done 45'000 kms...

TO4r with blitz fmic
Cusco fully ad suspension front and rear
R Magic exhaust
Twin plate clutch
Recaro Seats
Hks F Con V Pro Computer
Blitz SBC
17 " SSR wheels with 275/40 Nitto Extreme drag tyres on the rear, brand new 235/40 Yokahama front

A lot of other stuff which I won't find till I delve further....

Anyway I have taken it for a couple of spins and am amazed at how smooth and early this turbo produces power.... Is only running 1.04 bar( I think this is 15psi) and the shift light has the jap owner changing very low in the rev range.

Not sure what revs ( I was concentrating on the road) around the 5-6000 mark.

Anyway how much boost are other to4r owners running, it hauls **** already so will be interested in finding more knowledgable peoples advice and thoughts.

Cheers

The TO4R is 66.7MM, the T66 is 65.5 MM(pretty close) that said alot more guys have made big power with a TO4R than a T66. I suspect that is because the TO4R is commonly part of a well designed HKS kit, The T66 on the other hand is often a home made kit with a less than optimum manifold. Also in that same vein, the guys that can afford an HKS kit usually have all the proper supporting mods, where the backyard T66 guys may not. I will be challenging that norm in the near future Carl
