To4E or twins?

Hi all.

Ok, i am putting a fresh motor in my every day road car, it spends quite a bit of its life in traffic and driving sensibly, but i do like to go out plying down country lanes in it every so often.

So.. At the moment i'm a bit torn between fitting a smallish single like a T04E (just to Keep things simple and get rid of allot of the Vac assembly and maybe run a bit cooler) but i do like the way the Twins drive as an every day car, But with the T04E kit there is a bit of a draw back, i would have to spend a bit of money upgrading the fuel system and having it remapped?

I guess the question is if i fitted a To4E (.84 turbine .60 compressor) would it be as drivable as stock twins? (same sort of Spool and similar sort of power/Maybe a little more) and how loud would it be? i have a single Turbo Fd already and TBH i would not drive it as an every day car because its too loud (Apexi N1 with Silenced mid pipe on a T04R)

I am not looking for massive power, when it came of the road it was running 13psi on a stock motor & stock twins (just over 300 at the flywheel) my new motor has a smallish Extended port but apart from that is not a monster by any means. TBH i don't even know what T04E's run power wise? i have been doing a bit of reading up on them, is the "Run out of Puff at Top end" still better than twins??

So what do you think???

Cheers
Chris

The twins have instant boost when they are working right, something even a small T4 won't exactly have (but can still have good spool). If you want to replace your twins with a smaller single of similar power capability, just make sure you get something with a high flowing manifold and turbine design (preferably stainless divided) and a ball bearing center for maximum response. 550/1300 should be fine for injectors, and yes the car will have to be retuned somewhat. You can look at GT series turbos as well.

How loud would it be? Plumb the wastegate to the DP and run a Racing Beat catback, it will be fine. Open air wastegate is going to be loud no matter what.

I would go with the T04E. It has close to the same response as good working twins. But with the T04E you get a more room under the hood, more power, and less frustration in the future.

a little later spool on the single might actually be a good thing for the daily. staying out of boost will be easier, and that will save you some money considering the cost of petrol over there these days.

Unfortunately you have a valid point there, i am bring down the Hp of my car to get a bit better MPG. For example My local fuel station is charging £1.24 a liter at the moment (Thats about $2.5 a liter in US)
