For those who have or want to run In Tank Bosch 044
I bought a Bosch 044 fuel pump and matching fuel sock from jayracing.com about 3 months ago and installed.
For the longest time I thought it was just the fuel pump making natural noise,
whiirrrblurrrpwhirrrrrblurppwhiiirrr
Then one day an angle came along and extracted all the jelly fluid from inside of my fuel pressure guage. After that, I saw an even bigger problem;
Since my fuel pressure guage no longer had internal damping (jelly), it reacts to the T a whole lot quicker than expected. Now, every time my Bosch 044 pump made a blurrrp, the guage on the fuel pressure would dip about 2-3 psi. I could also physically feel the fuel surging from within every fuel flowing part.
i tried everything under the hood from bypassing fuel rails, regulators, and redoing somefuel lines all the while trying to scope out the problem. I even tried bypassing the stock fuel filter to no avail.
In the end, I found the fuel sock being sold by Jay Racing expiriencing a minor, potentially a major manufacturing defect. BIG FIRE: It completely colapses while the pump is running, causeing the pump to Hic-up or blurp about once or twice a second. I observed that only a very small part of the fuel sock was even doing anything while collapsed; a mere 3/4 inch piece of the fuel sock was allowing fuel to pass through. The rest of the sock just wasnt spaced enough to flow much at all. Think of a powerfull pump trying to pull through a narrow straw; it was severely stressing out my pump.
Fast forward to now: Ive pulled the sock out of the equasion and now the system has rock steady pressure while the pump is much much quieter.
Im not sure where Jayracing is buying/making their 044 fuel socks... Needless to say i was on the phone with them several times throughout the testing ordeal and they were very helpfull. I didnt tell them yet of their fuel socks being defective but rest assure I will call them first chance I get.
My immidiate recommendation: if you gotta run the Bosch 044 in tank, remove the Jay Racing fuel sock before you spike lean and blow engine.
Engineering recomendation: Manufacture the sock with a higher plastic to seperate the layers and allow the pump to pull from the entire sock.

I bought the same set up and hadn't installed it as I saw exactly what you are describing.
I had tried to make a couple of spacers to go between the pump and the bottom of the sock to hold the floor of the sock away from the fitting, but I thought they would eventually wear through the filter w/ constant pump vibration.
I am sorry that I did not raise this concern on the forum. Thank you for your confirmation!

When I installed my Walbro it came with a small white sock. I used the stock square one, no way that thing will collapse on itself. The small white sock looked to me like it would do exactly as you described so I tossed it.
Well Im Waiting For My Dual Bosch Set Up From Cj Motorsports But I Was About To Buy The Socketc From This Guys At Jay Racing But Ill Think Ill Change My Mind Here, But Know I Really Dont Know What To Put In There Or Just Leave It Without Socks Cause I Will Have A Fuel Filter In Each Line, Just Let Us Know What You Guys Are Planning To Do On This , I Wil Also Try To Give Jay Racing A Call To See What They Have To Say.

If you don't run the sock you will shorten the life of your pump and are taking chances. Aeromotive recommends a 100 micron filter before the pump to do that. 100 microns is .1mm ive seen bigger stuff in a tank. I personally am "freeballin it"
Why would you run a 044 Intank PUmp?
When you can just run a bosch 040?

If you are making more power then a bosch 040 can provide youll probably have a car that surges below half tank anyway.

Thanks for that bit of info!
I was going to order 3x 044 sock filters from jayracing next week.
Looks like I'll be making something now, unless anyone can suggest an alternative supplier or filter setup??

I definantely want know if there is another supplier as well for the socks. I got 2 of them Jayracing to use with my CJ bosch set up. I haven't installed it yet, but I'm glad someone found this out.
ATL (fuel cell guys) sells a pickup for the O44 part # KS191

044 filter
This is just the filter with threads to screw into the base of the 044.
The pump will have to be mounted slightly higher since the filter is thicker than the sock type pickup.

The attraction to the cj kit origibally for was the fact it was a direct drop and no fabricating needed.

Daym I have 2 of them too...lol...I wonder if this is just a fluke...Maybe the filter was defective, I was just thinking this since the filters are made by Bosch and they should have tested this out before putting it out on the market.
It is not a fluke it is a bad design.
I do not believe the filter is made by Bosch, just some one that had the idea to press a filter from another application onto a fitting that happens to fit the '044 pump.
The ATL filter looks like it will have issues as well.
It looks like it will suffer horribly from starvation w/ fuel slosh while cornering as the filter media is so tall. It may be that they were smart and ran a pick up tube to the bottom of the filter, but I doubt it.
I have one more idea to try with the jayracing filter.
Another option is to buy some universal sock filters like Kinsler sells that has the fitting inline with the sock and use a block of fitting for the 90 deg to the pump.

I bought a similar setup from Pegasus racing and the sock that came with it has internal framework in place to prevent it from collapsing.

For the outlet A/N fitting I bought a fitting that was originally for a caburator, but machined the hole in the fitting to as big as possible for reduce flow restriction.
