Thumbs down For those with the HKS log mani and 40mm gates

I may be too late with this information, or maybe its new.. Who knows? But here we go:

For starters, the HKS 40MM external gate is a 40mm inlet, and a 31.75mm outlet. Why? Because HKS measures the inlet diameter, and thats it.. So in essence you are getting a 31.75 mil wastegate.. I know this because I spent ALL day on the phone with HKS USA... Ever wonder why the damn thing starts creeping? Now you know..

Second, HKS has DISCONTINUED the production of the rectangle flange 50MM wastegate and there is NO ADAPTER unless you make it yourself. So unless you can find a used 50mm that is NOT an SS Racegate, you are doing custom work.. Have fun. BTW, the outlet size on the 50mm is 51.3 or something to that effect. Much more flow.. (BTW thier website STILL says that the manifold will accept a 40 or a 50mm gate.. Jackasses..)

Lastly, if you want to purchase on of thier crappy 40mm flanges to adapt say, a TIAL or TurboSmart or whatever, be prepared to shell out $60 for a mild steel flange...

Again, I dont know if this information is new, or if the word is already out, but I am personally DONE with HKS.. I am getting a ******* TIAL..

Jerks..

TiAL has never done me wrong. I'm going to use them for both the wastegate and BOV on my next project.

Made in America too.

I know, everyone raves about TiAL.. The only reason I went with HKS was ease of installation on the HKS manifold. In retrospect, I should have went with my first instinct and gotten the TiAL 46.

I just sourced a Hks 50 mm racing with the rectangle flange so I'm gonna switch it out. I originally recirculated the wastegate but with the 50mm I'm gonna vent it and try it out to see if I can take the noise. I'm running 3" downpipe, 3" midpipe, and Apexi GT catback right now so the additional noise shouldnt bother me.

Uhh..

Doesnt look like this fits an HKS log...

Adapter Flange, Allows 46mm wastegate to be used with HKS Flanged Manifolds, Adapter bolts onto the 46mm wastegate using 4 countersunk allen bolts (8mm x 1.25 pitch) and has 4 tapped holes on adapter to bolt to HKS flanged manifold using studs and nuts (8mm x 1.25 thread). HKS manifold must have bolt pattern of 2-3/16" bolt-center to bolt-center spacing for side to side adjacent hole measurement and 3" bolt-center to bolt-center spacing for diagonal holes.

^^ is a square as far as I know...

Maybe I am measuring this like a moron.. Looks like it might work on a different pattern then the actual rectangular flange...

Yeah, its 4 bolt, but the flange is square, and no longer rectangle. You can call them and they will even tell you that it wont fit.

Yep, because HKS discontinued that model of 50mm about 8 months ago and they are no longer available. Only the square ones..

Dont believe me if you like, dont matter to me.

I'm having a hard time grasping the consept of saying something is 40mm when in fact it is not. I kind of understand about the hks, at least the inlet is 40mm. I have the TiAl and started thinking after I saw this thread about the actual size of it being that i have one. Well the inlet size to the 40mm tial wastegate is 36.15mm and the oulet is 34.25mm. What a bunch of shistey business tactics.

edit: I hate to see the size of a 38mm wg.

Haha, yeah.

TiAl makes a good product, though. I have the 40mm and it's holding up great.

So far so good with the wastegate, but i'm not making serious power.....yet. The manifold was a piece of ****. Didn't align itself with the ports. They were for a 12a. They just swapped out a flange. ******* lazy bastards.
