T78 damaged exhaust turbine
#26
Majestic in Texas should be able to rebuild it.
The turbine wheel is only part of the cost. The balancing and RnR is the other bulk. Shipping is that great either (fortunately, they're about 1 hour away from me). If you don't find any rebuilder soon, talk to Kevin at Majestic in Texas. I didn't hear anything good about Majestic in Florida.

btw, clipped wheels will increase lag on a free flowing exhaust set-up. However, it'll help flow more cfms.

On hold at Majestic in Texas right now. Ok, talked to Kevin. It's going out to them today. Should be under $500 to fix. Not bad but not great. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Just to fill everyone in, I contacted two other places, Majestic Turbo in Tampa (not the same as the Texas place) and Atlantic Turbo in Florida. Atlantic needed the part numbers and it sounded like it would take weeks to get it back. Same with the Tampa majestic. Texas Majestic said about four days. They can also machine out the compressor side and fit a more effiicient wheel.

Just to throw my hat in the ring, I had a VERY long, drawn-out experience with Majestic in Tampa - they handled my business very dishonestly and could never build a turbo (an upgraded stock TurboII turbo) that didn't blow oil. I gave them FAR more fair chances than I should have, and ended up sinking a bunch of money into a junk turbo.
I haven't heard any thing either way about Majestic in Waco though - have heard a few good experiences, come to think of it. Remember, they are totally separate operations.

I know you've already found a solution, but I thought my experience with my similarly damaged RX6 would be useful to someone, so I'm posting it.
SUGGESTION: If you buy a used turbo, you need to remove the turbine housing to check for such damage. It wasn't visible with the housing installed on my RX6, and I assume the same for Michel's T78.
I called a bunch of turbo places, and no one seemed willing to even look at my RX6. TEC said that they couldn't get parts, but that they might be able to trim the turbine wheel to remove the damage. I read several favorable posts about TEC on the Miata list and I think from D. Lane (CarTech turbo 1st gen). I sent it in and they fixed it (trim & rebalance) for $200-$300 (I don't remember exactly, maybe $225 or $275). It looked fine when I got it back and it seems to work fine. My experience with TEC was very positive, and I would not hesitate to use them again. I do wonder how the car would run without the turbine trimmed, but not enough to spend $2000 to find out.
I have posted that the non-rebuildability of the RX6 was a liability, but it seems to be a much more common issue than I was aware of before. It sounds like the T78 has similar issues, and I suspect some of the other ball bearing turbos may have such issues, too.

Yeah that was sort of the reason why I posted my experience. There seem to be very few turbos that are rebuildable by a wide number of shops. It's just something to consider. I "should" have pulled both housings off. I could not see the damage with the exhaust housing on the turbo. A mistake I'll never make again and hopefully, readers of this post won't either :-)
As far as trimming the blades, most said that only the tips could be "clipped". My turbine is actually having material "welded" in for lack of a better term. Apparently it's a very specialized process and 100% reliable. Majestic actually sends it out. Not done in-house.
I never called TEC. Forgot about them! Do they have a web site?

Hmm, all this talk makes me thing getting a plain jane garrett may be the way to go. Though I've heard from several people that the Garrett BB's can be rebuilt in certain places.
