T72,t78,t88,t100??????
What do these numbers represent? I always thought the T78 is better than the T72 as the T88 is better than both and T100 is better than them?!?!?! But it doesn't seem to be the case.....and I really never have gotten the right answer then!!!! I have unlimited budget for the turbo for one, I want to produce INSANE INSANE hp on my 13B....the fuel system, ecu, and ignition have been acounted for....WHAT TURBO???? I want something that is RIDICULOUSLY FAST!!!! At least 10's on the street.........WHICH ONE?? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!! AND WOULD A T100 be GOOD????

TS04, T-61, T-64, T-66, T-70, T-72 and the T-76 all belong to one family of Turbos made by Turbonetics called the Competition T-Series! They are all based on Garrett turbos.
Also in the Turbonetics family of competition turbos there is the Thumper Series! The T-88, T-91, T-100 all fall under this series from Turbonetics. Basicaly in all of the above turbos the # represent the size of the compressor wheel in millimeters and thus the compressor performance. The higher the # the greater the air flow capability!. Roughly the TSO4 is capable of 550hp and the T-100 is capable of 1600hp!
The Greddy T-78 and T-88 are another series made by Mitsubishi turbos of Japan! The #'s on these turbos don't represent the size of the compressor wheel but actually the performance output of the turbo. So then the T-88 flows more than the T-78. In comparison with the Turbonetics turbos the Greddy T-78 would be close to the T-66 and the Greddy T-88 to the T-76.

Uh, how old are you?
I suggest you stick around and read up some more. Also, I suggest you consult with a reputable shop to help build that "10 second street car" for you. Just remember, Power is nothing without control. You have a loooong way to go ViperKiller-san.

Excellent info by crispeed except for the GReddy turbos. GReddy T78 has a TD-07 compressor and a TD-08 exhaust turbine. GReddy T88 has a TD-08 compressor and a TD-08 exhaust turbine. T78 has a 67mm compressor wheel, not sure about the T88. The T88 turbo is definitly smaller than a garrett based T76, it's slightly smaller than a T72... I'd say it's around the size of a T70.

When you rate turbo performance it's not just by the size or by what the compressor is capable of producing but also you have to take the turbine side into consideration.
It's obvious that a T-76 match with a T-3 turbine section would not operate at it's maximum HP capability like as if it was match with a Q-trim turbine section.
One of the reasons why the Greddy T-88 turbo is capable of supporting a little extra HP over the T-76 is because of the turbine section. The turbine section of a T-88 would swallow the Q-trim Garett based turbos for breakfast!
As for the HKS turbos they are all based on Garrett designs.
The TO4S is just a 60-1 with a P-trim turbine section.. The only T04R I saw from them was a 60-1 compressor section machined to fit either a 66 or 70 mm compressor wheel or what is known here as the 66-1 or 70-1 with a clipped P-trim turbine wheel. I have seen the old T-51R but not the Kai or modified latest versions. The one I saw someone had already machined the compressor to fit a 76mm compressor wheel! The turbine section was a Q-Trim!
As for the new T-51's available from Garrett they come in various compressor and turbine trims. I saw one trim that was very interesting . It had a 10 blade clipped turbine wheel vs. the regular 11 blade design and was much bigger than the Q-trim or even the turbine section of the Greddy T-88!
Also the Garrett T-51 and some of the HKS turbos are based on large frame heavy duty commercial designs but the turbine housings were cast to fit and bolt to a regular TO-4 manifold.

T51R Kai=> 70mm compressor wheel with a 71mm/82mm turbine wheel(bigger then Q-trim) with 1.0 A/R
T51R SPL=> 76.5mm comp. wheel with same turbine side.
which would flow more??? -6 bladed or 8 bladed 66mm compressor wheel... Mitsu turbos (T78 & T-88) seem to flow well in low boost and as well in high boost.

So with the information that you and John gave would it be safe to say that the Garrett T-76 Ptrim is around the equivalent to a HKS T51 SPL, as the compressor wheels are both 76mm and that all hks turbos are based on the garrett turbo. With people knowing this info people would be able to stop looking at the huge turbo systems and be able to fabricate a system of the same specs for half the price. Thats the Power of information

Crispeed--> any comparison info or links for the size of the compressor wheels with different number of blades and their flows?
Alot of centrifugal chillers(they are basically a huge turbo driven by an electric motor through a gearbox) have similar output and sized wheels with different number of blades, they alter the pitch of the blade to increase or decrease capacity for a given sized wheel family, not the number of blades, but on fans they decrease the number of blades and invert the angle of attack to increase the fans abiltiy to move air against a higher static pressure, I am sure the same rules would apply to turbo's..Max

what are they worth ? would i be better getting say a garrett T-70 ? or a Masterpower T-60 GT P ?

i did a web search of the turbo i wanted to buy and this came up so i bumped it.
really need o know if im makeing the right choice buying the T-72 TO4S ?
need some thing reliable ans able to make 300KWs at the treads with as minumal lag as possible
