T70 turbo?? Was curious what kind of power its good for.

Hey whats up guys. I have a turbo I was told was a T70 turbo. It was on my car when I bought it. I was curious what kind of power this is good for? It has no shaft play or anything but it does smoke. It has a 3" inlet (compressor inlet) and 3" outlet (vband rear housing outlet). Im not sure what trim or what the A/R is on the compressor housing. The exhaust housing is a 1.15 A/R. Heres some pics of the turbo. Im just trying to get an idea on how much power its good for. How much boost its good for. Well thanks guys

Pull the comp housing off and measure the inducer and exducer of the comp wheel to make sure of what it is. If it is a true T70 wheel, good for 400 wheel at 15psi easy.... i am guessing a P-trim turbine?

Ive never seen a T70 with a 3" intake,..... Looks to be about a 70mm inducer on the wheel though....

The term t-70 is used very lossely by alot of people.
Im not sure if the photo is deseving its size, but my guess is that you have a t04 core, and probably a t-56 or T-58 compressor with a t04e housing.

Have you measured the compressor inducer? what a/r is the compressor housing?

Yea I've been noticing a lot that the T70 term has been used very looselIm not sure what the A/R is on the comp housing. It doesn't have it marked or anything. If it is a T04 core with a T-56 housing or something is that still a good turbo? I know the comp housing is pretty big. I have a IHI RHC7 turbo here and the comp housing is bigger then that with a bigger wheel. I'm kind of wanting to sell it and if I do I dont want to sell it saying its something its not. Thanks for your help.. If you have any more info please share thanks

EDIT: I know the rear A/R is 1.15 on the exhaust housing.
Here is a pic of my old T04 turbo. This "T70" turbo is A LOT bigger then it. You can see from the pics

3" inlet means it's a Garrett T04B compressor housing.

It can't be a T-58, cause at least Turbonetics calls a TS04 = T-58.
TS04 compressor housing is a 4" inlet.

All that crap eBay turbos use the moniker "T70" which causes all the confusion.

If you go by the Turbonetics specs of their T-70, I doubt that's what you have, cause the compressor wheel just won't fit into t T04B compressor housing...

BTW, you can't compare turbos from different manufacturers like in your pic.

Ah. Okay Thanks.. So what I have is a T04B turbo? I had a Garrett T04E turbo a few months back. it was the same size compressor as the smaller one in the above pic. Why would this "T04B" be so much bigger then a T04E?? Turbo sizing and specs is confusing me. I have to read up more on them. Would this turbo be able to make some decent power??

Just because it uses a 3" inlet doesn’t make it a to4b, to4b also use 2 3/4" inlets. The housing is much too large to be a t04b. to4b housings are much smaller and use .6a/r. The housing you have is larger than both the t04b and t04e housings.

T-58 is a compressor spec. Just because Turbonetics uses it in there Ts04 doesn’t make it exclusive to them.

However from those last photos the size is much larger than I realized. So its not a .5a/r T04e housing. It is a big turbo but i dought it uses a t-70 compressor since you will strugle to fit it in a 3" inlet.

Id assume the turbo you have is a t04 of some sort with a T-series compressor of some size, probably close to the t-58. If you meassure the compressor inducer that will tell you which t-series it is.

Note that T-series compressors can be found in a number of different housing as small as t04e housing all the way up to TA45 housings. your housing is a very large t04 housing of some sort.

I have a IHI RHC7 turbo that Im putting on my car now. But its just temporary as im looking for something that will break me well into the 400 if not 500whp range. Thanks for the replies guys.
