T51KAI? No Money?? EAT YOUR HEART OUT!
So....
I picked up my HKS T51r KAI Kit today...
Yes, I did say Kit.. this includes downpipe, turbo, manifold, and 60mm wastegate...
ALL HKS.. not knockoffs...
Anyway... you would figure this kit goes used for $2500-3500? And new for $4400-5000? Hrmm...
Check this...
I picked mine up (used of course) for $1700... I have the setup sitting right next to me. I just thought I would rub it in a little.. I couldn't pass up the deal.
Turbo has no shaft play, no bent fins, chips, etc... I checked it all out personally before I handed over the loot.
Honestly, for a genuine T51r KAI kit, would you pass it up for $1700?

well i got my gt35/40 kit with 1000 miles of use no shaft play and all lines and fittings for 1200.... The kit was made by a company in australia called RPM performnce. good quality. i looked up the wastegate i got and it retailed for 900 bucks alone. It is a PSR 45mm. i have never heard of it but it must be quality... VERY nice pick up though, and that makes me jealous. heres another JK.

Here is what I found out.
If the oil rings go, there would be tons of shaft play... and the wheels would rub.
If the turbo has been sitting for a long period of time, it is possible for the oil to leak through the rings.... it has to be sittin at the right angle and it will drip out.
I am going to take it in to get inspected, but according to both of the authorized garrett rebuilders, they both gave me the exact same information.
Turbo should be fine.

The oil seals will seal inside the compressor when they receive oil pressure. If there is oil inside the internals, and the turbo is sitting on it's side, the oil will leak through the seals and into the compressor housing. Once the turbo is receiving proper oil pressure (while the vehicle is running) the seals will seat in place and work as intended.
If the turbo is gone, I'll be sending it your way for a new center section, but I am now doubtful that there is something wrong with it.
