T3/T4 Turbo on a FC and INTERCOOLER Question

I was interested in buying a Garret/Turbonetics T3/T4 turbo. I still have the stock turbo, and was wondering how hard it would be to swap it out and install the T3/T4. Has anyone done this is know how difficult it would be?

Also...

If i was to buy a front mount intercooler for my FC...how hard is it to find the right piping, or could i have a shop bend pipes to fit? Any help, i would LOVE!

Thanks a million

Jeff

Most T3-sized turbine housings would typically be too small for rotaries... It would choke your motor.

BNR doesnt have a website. The T3 hotside is smaller than the HT-18 hotside. A regular shaft T4 compressor assembly will bolt onto a the stock turbo center housing.

thats strange...isn't the hot turbo kit of the week for the 3rd gens the GT35/40 kit that uses a t3 turbine housing??? This is another forum myth

The GT35/40R uses a 68mm/84trim wheel which is larger than any T3 wheel. It also uses a much more efficent GT style turbine wheel in a larger A/R housing, typically a 1.06 as opposeed to a .84, .63 or .48 for a T3.

What will bolt directly on in place of my stock turbo?

Will a garret T3/T4 Hybrid work? Is that using the T4 housing? Im new to this stuff and have no idea, i just want to make around 20psi instead of the stock 7ish...and i want it to be an easy install, because im poor

Thanks a lot,
-Jeff

THANK YOU.....

I've bitten my lip too many times and am sooo tired of "but the gt3040 or Rx-6 is a T3 hot side, so T3 is fine."
As you stated, the turbo's just mentioned uses a T3 FOOT PRINT and NOT a T3 sized wheel, and there a newer/higher flowing design and larger housings.

The ol' statement "A t3 is too small for a rotary", that everyone hates is true, just not a complete statement

Do you deny the 13B can spin a full T04 turbine section?
If the T04 > T3, then wouldn't the statement be true?

Just because the 13B can make power with a T3 doesn't mean it's not too small.  In turbo sizing, smaller is the safer route.

If you're keeping the boost down to 10 psi, a t3/t04e with a .84 A/R would probably work (I believe .84 is as big as they come). The problem is basically the exhaust gases can't escape quick enough though. The best analogy I ever heard is "The engine can't eat any more if it can't crap any more."

You're not really "choking" the engine, you're stopping it up. So no matter how much you increase boost, the power won't go up significantly - only your EGT's. That's the simplest way I can put it.

Unless its a fairly custom T3/T4 then it will be 'too small' as in smaller than stock.

I personally have a t3/t4 turbo, had it on my old 13b that blew up. But its not a stock t3 hot side...... has a clipped back exhaust wheel that _looks_ rather similar to a stock S4 one in a heavily machined out 0.88 a/r single entry T3 turbine housing originally off a mitsubishi of some description (truck I think.....), and a t4 compressor wheel in some other mitsubish housing thats been heavily machined out. A bit too much for my liking, there doesn't seem to be enough metal at the very tip of the inducer not too crumble.. i've always been rather careful when putting a air filter on it, don't want to break it!

But yes most, nearly all, t3/t4 hybrids will be too small for a 13b, smaller than stock that is..
