long story short...bought a used turbo kit here on the forum, t04r that needed a rebuild and had 2 rebuilders tell me it was junk, turbocity and a friend that works for garret. i truly believe the seller didn't know it was bad so i dont want to turn it into "one of those threads."

anyways i am running stock ports for now, until it blows i guess, which might not be too soon, its a reman with good compression and 30k on the clock. so i have to get a new turbo for what i have. i have a gotham manifold that is divided and twin tial 38mm wastegates and a dp to fit the T04r or similar i'm assuming. i'm hoping to buy a new turbo and use the dp and manifold i have.

i am looking for 400 or so now, and 500 or so with a ported motor down the line. boost responce is important to me but i dont need it by 3k or anything like that, a balance would be nice. i have a midpipe and i'll be running an AI mix as of yet. i dont mind running 20+ pounds if i need to. hehe

does my new turbo need a divided housing to maximize potential or is it not neccessary? if it will help even a little, i would prefer it. so with this rather large list of requirements, what turbo's am i looking at?:
T04z
GT40R?

i believe a gt35r will get you where you want to be

 

is the 35r a similar sized frame turbo? in that i can use my dp that i have now? and is it available divided? haven't seen one yet...

 

35R seems small for your goals. T04Z actually does sound better if you can afford it.

 

Yeah, the 35R will get to just over 400 on stock ports but you will not have a lot of room left in it to increase boost and stay in a good efficiency range. The GT40R may suit you better although it will take a bit longer to spool. Or the T04Z

 

can a gt40r bolt on to my manifold with no issues? and will i be able to use my dp? also i haven't seen a 40r with a divided housing as of yet.

 

35r... ultimate choice! fast response and is proven to 500+ hp on rotaries. I have run them up to 29psi before and they love it! thats on honda engines but still the turbos are efficient as hell.

theres that one guy here on the forums doing 500rwhp on a stock as hell REW engine

i just saw a divided housing on garrets site. i stand corrected to myself. lol
now i need to know which would be better suited to my needs. i know the gt40r has less moving parts and is supposed to be more reliable but will it work with my downpipe? so what are the opinions on what would be best between these 2 turbos?

 

I don't see a divided inlet for the GT40 on atpturbo.com , although it may still be available. The T04Z and the GT40 both have a 67mm inducer I believe. I don't think it would be a big deal to just get the T04Z.

true, i dont see the divided 40r's for sale anywhere so far. i like both turbos but after doing more research i definately want a divided housing.

 

i just bought a 40r from a friend and got an awesome deal. i bought it with a divided .85 housing that should work well with my stock ports. when i get a ported motor, i'm planning an aggresive streetport, i can step it up to the divided .95 or even the 1.06 divided and i will be able to meet the goals i want. should perform well.
