Smoke, input needed

Had a 35r,car did not smoke anytime. Switched to a Precision billet 6765bb and now have smoking issues. Smoke is blue and def. smells like oil. I notice a puff of smoke between gear changes, and if the car idles for more then a couple of mins it starts smoking alot. I have had people tell me that it also smokes after a boosted pull. I am running the restrictor that came with the turbo, and a 5/8 return line. No shaft play, and I didn't notice any oil in the cold side or the charge pipes.

I don't know what size the restrictor is, as I don't have a good way to measure it. Is a 5/8 return large enough? Anything I should try or check before I starting taking the turbo and intake manifold looking for the source of the oil?

I just had my journal bearing 6265 sent back with very little mileage because of smoking at rpm. They tore it apart and said seals were fine and even with a -3AN line to run around a 0.065 restrictor. They rebuilt and sent back free under warranty.

Give Wes a call at Precision and see what he suggests. I have always found Precision to be helpful with any issues. Not to mention it pretty cool they have the 1 yr no hassle warranty.

Based on your information though it sounds like your seals are gone. 5/8 return should be fine as long as its draining near vertical.

Maybe you only need the proper restrictor in the oil line. Contact the vendor!!

You have a good tune? Not related to your problem. Just wondering how you like compared to the 35r. Thanks G

So it only smokes under vacuum? Are you sure you aren't getting oil in the intake through the PCV?

If it was PCV related, I'd expect the puff when you shift (vacuum), and idle (vacuum), and after a pull (vacuum).

That's interesting. I have a jb 6265 - this is for a Renesis application - and I was concerned about the higher oil pressure the engine operates at vs. Precision's recommended max (80 psi, I think it was) so I contacted them asking about using a restrictor. Their response to me was to use a -3AN line unrestricted, and if that didn't work it was "time for a bb upgrade".

What oil pressures are you seeing on your car?

Ya, it's tuned to 470 at 22 psi with water inj. It spools faster, makes more tq, and has a broader tq band, very smooth power delivery as well. Can't think of any area the 35r was better at.

I don't think it could pull that much oil through pcv, but I am gong to get rid of it anyway. I have a catch can so it is pointless to have in the system.

I talked with Patrick at Precision and he thinks it is due to high oil pressure. According to the factory gauge I have 50 at idle and 100+ at wot. I am currently running a -4 feed line, he is sending me a -3 .038 restrictor to try in a -3 feed line.

Thanks for the response. The factory Renesis regulator tops pressure at 85-90 psi, but I was most likely to run a modified regulator that would make my pressures closer to yours. I think I'm going to have to contact them again.
