You don't want 450-500HP in an RX7 if you're new. You will die.

here is a thread that I created regarding a single turbo conversion shopping list and recommendations. Read here for many experts have already answered some of my questions and I've also included what's necessary or not on the list and where to get them if you needed help.

For 450-500, what psi do you plan to hit? 20-25 go with the 500R but that would cost u 3700+ guaranteed.

But if you are looking for something very nice quick and fun to drive with, GT35R. But if you want something that spool just as quick and have higher top end, which also gives you 400-500 range, got with the T04Z turbo.

T04Z is the one I am heading towards. And you need alot of supporting mods to really go single, hope you've done you research and since I am just starting or purchasing parts for this conversion, my calculation and conclusion came to:

If you want a good single conversion, you would have to spend over 9000+ to get it done correctly. That is, if you are doing everything yourself. If you are having other's to do what you want, it will certainly cost you over 12-15k easily.

And good luck.

p.s. for a newbie, do you really want 450+ hp? Because I strongly suggest knowing your car first, take some driving courses and then do the conversion. 450+ is not a joke bro. good luck anyways.

you want something that spools as fast as a turbo that's roughly the size of your fist...and you want to make 500whp with it? The closest you're going to get is a large port job and BNR S3 Sequential twins. With a good enough tuner you might be able to hit 420whp with compairable spool to the twins. If you run them non-sequential, you'll be able to squeeze a few extra hp but you'll be looking at full boost around 4000 rpms.

And for the love of god, keep that XS ebay **** off the car. You'd think a Supra owner would know better.

Oh I see, just new to the rotaries. But rotaries are different from other cars, just to let you know. Especially the 7, they tend to give you a happy fish tail if your turned your steering wheel just a tad bit over. It's a total different animal compared to a tt supra. Therefore, if you want something spool as fast as the twins, either upgrade to a twin or go with the GT35R or A-Spec's 500R.

But for your goal, you merely want something that's fast and spool as fast. The 500R would be just a kill for you since u wont be actually using it's potential power like I was thinking. Therefore, get a GT35R with a T4 divided 1.0 housing, it will kick you back in your seats and spool just as fast =).

Another option is do a research on the T04Z that I mentioned earlier, the spool is a bit (very little, that you wont notice) compared to the GT35R, which gives you much better top end.

Hope this helps.

Do some reading on the car before you get to far ahead of yourself. There is virtually no reason whatsoever to keep the airpump, plus no singles will fit it anyways.

well if you want to keep your AC, dont try to V-mount unless you are customizing the V-mount urself. Some FMIC might not even allow you to keep your AC, so just bare that in mind.

Air pump, get rid of it for your own good =)

I live in Canada also but my province doesn't have smog.

Also a single turbo will not pass smog, not a 500hp single anyways. I will say as others have said 500hp will kill you.

if you want speed, and still want to keep everything for smog. GOOD LUCK.

It's VERY VERY hard and expensive to make a legal single that's smog legal, i know cuz I am a smog tech =)

Short runner A-spec kit will fit with the air pump, singles have passed emissions as far as numbers go, visual is another story. TO4Z will not be anywhere near as quick as a 35R T4 as far as response. TO4Z will not out flow the newer 500R's. Nor will it have the response. Keep in mind this is all things being equal. Put a larger turbo on a better breathing motor than the smaller turbo and it could spool quicker. Comparing one car to another and saying it's the turbo is a poor comparison. Too many variables.

Get rid of the twins run a 35R T4 1.0 and it will be a fun 400whp+ car. That wont drop off up top.

If your after 450whp+ 500R-SP will offer best response followed by a TO4Z.

If your after closer to 500whp and want to keep some response and not have a "larger frame" turbo you could get it out of a either a 500R-HP or squeeze it out of a TO4Z physically the 500R-HP will outflow the TO4Z and make the power a bit easier to reach.

All this stuff is potential not a given. I've seen great builds from great tuners make ok power, I've seen crappy home made junkers put down great power.

Good luck!

Sean,
When does the 500R-SP get full boost?

Every GT35R with a 1.00 that I have dynoed and its a lot of them have gotten full boost around 4k RPM which is right where the T04Z is getting full boost.
The .82 gets full boost around 3500.

Jason, I think your trying to trick me here

You know as well as I do it's relative (the term full boost) First define full boost (ie what psi?) If I run say 25psi boost I will hit 15psi quicker than if I just run the 15psi. No?

You also know that each and every setup will effect spool correct? So timing, IC, port work, exhaust etc. all effect spool correct? I once gained 900rpm just by switching out a IC here, not too bad.

I stay away from the term "full boost" for those reasons. Or comparing how this car in the shop spools to say the guys car on the phone. On average I would say most cars we have here hit 15psi in the 3.5-3.8k range. We have had some hit it sooner 3.3krpm we have had some hit later 4k, even 4.5krpm but most hit right around 3.5-4k. We hit 15 psi at 2.8k rpm once but we also hit 32psi because a bad WG line.

The TO4Z's we have ran seem to be more like 4k on the low side and 4.5k+ on the high side. This is not me saying your wrong or calling you a lier, It's me saying this is what we see here.

We actually were surprised by how many 3574's which were non-BB units could be so close to 35R's on response. The difference between the two is ones a .84 T4 divided 74mm wheel and ones a 1.0 divided T4 68mm wheel. Cars felt almost identical and put out similar power numbers. Some 3574's actually had better number even. Again though it's comparing apples to oranges.

I took that and applied it to the 500R-SP they now run larger turbines with smaller A/r's. I have about 6 kits out and a few turbos were being tested with good standing customers so I could show the exact difference between the old 500R and the new 500R-SP. The car I had here for testing it ourselves let go twice due to user error. Once at break in being overly anxious before the tune, and once at the track running low on gas after four 20min sessions at a local road coarse.

That said it looks promising think a bit off a TO4Z with a .82 A/r but potential power of the 1.0. I know this is not the numbers you were hoping for, but I at the moment can only tell you two things. One I'm getting killed by some who were supposed to be up and running long ago, and two the physical properties of the turbo show it be as promised. Meaning what I know from both the 3574 and two other turbo's shows this to be more than likely the result, and the test car was seeming to show it as well.

All this aside it's funny to me as all these turbos are great performers. All offer excellent fun. People should be glad they have so many choices that are so similar. It really allows for getting exactly what you want. I haven't even gotten a chance to get the 3574R started yet. But think about, it that's a 3574, 3574R, 35R T4, 500R-SP 500R-HP, TO4R /TO4Z that's pretty good selection, all giving excellent power and response on any given day on any given car.

is your supra moded? your question leads me to beilive that it stock, plus stating that your ride a liter bike does nothing to prove you can handle a 2800lb car with 500rwhp, plenty of squids start off on liter bikes or busa. Anyhow i dont mean to sound like a dick but does some research, find out what your goals are and dertmine your budget then at 15% for **** going wrong. If your car is stock now, and you want to safely run those numbers I dont see you spending less then 15k:

Street port motor and rebuild
Stand Alone EMS
Cluthc and flywheel
Aftermarket LSD, my OEM LSD diff broke shortly after 400rhwp (I got a Kaaz 1.5, works great but its loud)
Anti wheel hop kit from Rx7.com
solid mounts for the motor, trans, and diff
Suspension mods like a full coil over
aftermarket radiator
intercooler
HKS DLI

this is just a short incomplete list, you can see it easly adds us to play with that much HP.
if you want alot of HP for cheap play with your MKi4
you can go with a SP single kit like a P63 and get over 400rwhp, that is still using your stock fuel and a MapECU to tune.
