***** and Giggles - T51rKAI Spool vs GT35r Spool (by hand)

This is a video of how a ball bearing turbo spins vs a journal bearing.

For all of those that are curious to see the difference in spool time without the turbo being run.

The KAI is the huge one of course... and the GT35r is ball bearing.

A 35r will spin for about 30 seconds after the car is shut off, where as the KAI stops spinning in about a second or two.

Even for a journal bearing, the turbo spins unusually slow. Are you sure that there is lube inside?

try lubing it up a bit, it should definitely spin better than that. What's wrong with the 35R?

Without oil under pressure, or any heat in there that isn't a real life comparison. Funny how I see BB salesmen doing the same thing at tradeshows..

Yeah charlie said it 'wasn't that bad' - his original picture wasn't... but after running it unbalanced and being a bit torn up.. you can see how it damaged it further.

My wheel looked like that also, probably worse even. I was wondering why my spool seemed laggy.

Yeah no reason a t3 gt35r shoudl spool slow. Even on stock ports, you should see boost come on around 2800, and full by 33-3500 rpm. Or so I hear... I remember guitarjunkie's car at 10lbs, that thing came on so fast.. it was nuts.

When I bought my 3071R's they would spin when I put them in front of the fan , now that they are on the car they continue spinnning for more than a minute after the engine is shut off.

Send it to majestic. I've sent 3 of these their way and they are able to set it straight.

My old T51R KAI would spin for 30-45 seconds after the car would shut off.

guitarjunkie was at 4000ft elevation too
oddly, my t66 only spools like 100-150 rpm slower than the old 35r, but it's got more turbine, so it's a little more friendly at higher boost levels on pump gas.
