Lightbulb RX8 engine with turbo or S/C?

I know these cars came out recently. But I
was wondering if anyone has gotten their
hands on a RX8 engine, and if they're
working on some mods like a turbo or
supercharger? This will be well over 300HP
easy.

sunflowerracing or something has done the suprcharger.
check with michrx7 the organizer of rotary revolution. The company that does the kits was a sponsor there.

The trick as I understand it not the charge mechanisim, allthough turbo is trickier since there's precious little room by the exhaust. It's the fuel enrichment, and high compression rotor faces, that makes things difficult.... anything over 8Psi is in no way a "bolt on" mod...

Thanks for the info fellas. I have an '85 SE and planning
on doing something nice to it. RX8 engine with a turbo
or S/C sounds like a nice combo to me.

How about a turbo and a supercharger, like the Lancia Group B car from the 80s. HKS Twincharger kit anyone?

Petitt is also developing a SC kit. Theres also some other shops here in FL doing turbo kits for it as well.

rotormaster in australia has made up a turbo kit for the rx8, it is aimed at increasing low end torque, i think for memory it uses a t28 garret, mounted from underneath the car. Is only running 6 or 7 psi. The turbo is very restrictive and chokes up the top end though (say over 7k rpm) He is currently working on a stage to kit that will run a larger turbo. I don't see a problem with running over 8psi provided an aftermarket ecu was used and the tune was good. Remember everyone is just samising what will happen very few people have hard data on the subject! I do know that if i had an rx8, i wouldn't hesitate in cranking some boost into it

cheers

Lance

I Agree, Highe Compression + Turbo = Dangerous.
High Compression + High Boost = Engine Failure

One thing to keep in mind with RENESIS turbo charging is its going to have to be sized on the turbine side like a 4 banger. The exhaust is weaker, and cooler. you also wont be able to run a split pulse manifold either unless someone makes a insert to fully divide the intermediat plates exhaust ports (which might restrict the primary exhaust flow). If your looking to make good power (say 350 or more at the wheels) a standard second, third gen or cosmo 2 rotor would be better suited for turbo charging.

i guess its all good if you have a good ecu +tuner , hhmmm....good gas (higher octane) could be a good plus

This is not necessarily true. It's all in the tuning. There are guys on the forum running high compression rotors making over 500 rwhp. Also Crispeed is making near 600 to the wheels. Remember that a high compression engine wont need as much boost to make the same amount of power as low a compression engine. One more thing off throttle response is greatly improved with high compression rotors vs low compression ones.

Correction.....a motor he just built and tuned is now over 600 to the wheels....(with more to go.....)

Correction.

high compression + boost + poor tuning = explosion

Suppose you machine the rotor recess for a lower compression. The only problem I see is terrible low-speed driveability, which the RX-8 lacks in the first place. We will catch up to you 4-porters soon enough. You'll see .

rotarygod mentioned something of that magnitude in the RX-8 Forum. I believe the 1200A would work wonders.
