rx6 times

i'm planning on getting a rx6 kit from someone and wondering what kind of 1/4 mile times are expected with all bolt ons?

no, this won't be a drag car, so don't start preachin about that, i just want a single to eliminate the vacuum nest, increase power and just be a VERY nice, quick street car.

be back later, post away, please. thanks, roy

Try to post in the Single Turbo Forum. You'll probably get a better response in there.

I got a friend that has a RX6 turbo on his car, he could only get about 13-14 seconds cuz he is smoking his tires (he needs slicks i think cuz that thing just puts out too much hp/torque for his current tires). I have not heard anything about about that turbo but i hear even better things about the GT35/40. good luck

You won't make any more power with the RX6 than stock turbo's, maybe less. Your better off with something a bit bigger.....maybe a T04E or S or the GT series. If your gonna do it, do it right.

What???? I don't think there's ANY way you could make LESS horsepower with the RX6 than with your stock twins. My car is so much faster at lower boost levels with my RX6 than it EVER was with the twins. I've yet to see proof of anyone making more than 340-350 on a DYNOJET (keep in mind different dynos show different power) with stock twins, and that's only when running them at a bar of boost which is known to kill them in the long run. There's dyno sheet after dyno sheet of RX6's making high 360's at 13psi, which isn't taxing anything. Then the power just goes up from there depending on the gas you want to run and how afraid you are of detonation...

What I don't think anyone takes into account is that as you increase your peak horsepower, you turn the curve into more of a spike. May be great for drag racing, but if you ever want to be fast in a turn it's going to be hell. I personally think a great car should do more than go straight fast. After spending a day at the track with the RX6 I'm extremely impressed with how wide the powerband is. With sticky tires and a good driver, I bet you could give that Supra a whooping on the track.

If you haven't seen someone make more than 350 rwhp on a dynojet with stock twins then you haven't been looking very hard.

OK, but regardless, the stock twins are going to making a ton of heat and will soon be blowing oil at that level of boost.

All turbos make a ton of heat at that kind of boost...

I agree though that it should be much easier to make power with an RX6 than the stock twins.

The RX6 kit is now way overpriced IMHO. If I were you I would look at the GT35/40 kit from ASPEC. Jason from the RX7store can hook you up.

I installed one about a month ago. Lag? What lag, this BB turbo spools quick! I dyno this weekend.

BTW: Wade - what you doing this weekend? You should consider crusing to Columbus for the Advanced Imports / RX7Store Dyno days (Friday [tomorrow] 6pm- midnight, and Saturday 11am - 6pm)

I agree Wade, but I'm just saying when you go beyond the boost level where a turbo was designed to run, the efficiencies go down and you create more heat than you would otherwise be making.

Anyways, doesn't matter much, but I was just making the statement that I don't think you'll find all that many people TRULY making 350 with their STOCK twins (although I know you always hear big claims). The average Joe's happy when they finally get 300-320rwhp out of them. I know there'd be a few out there with the big numbers, but it's not common. I don't think anyone with an RX6 makes less than high 360's. Plus, I like getting rid of that whole sloppy transition area. Again, I know you could go non-seq, but that's not really necessarily stock twins anymore.

But I haven't had an opportunity to ride in a GT35/40 yet. Sounds like it must be a good-un!

Peace!

has anyone actually seen compressor maps for the stock twins? everyone always bitches about there inefficiency about 12 psi, but I wanna see some proof -other than some yahoo's rebuilds coming apart.

There are plenty of stock twin RX-7's making 360 plus rwhp (5 around here of the top of my head). They all run 15/16 psi on pump fuel and have been doing so for 7 years or so... The turbo generally last 120,000 miles as do the engines. It's all about tuning. Here is a guy up norths dyno..

http:www.efini.net/hpcomparo.htm

BTW: An RX-6 will make more power than the twins by about 30-50 rwhp on average..

I will agree that it would be better to go a little bigger but I disagree that the RX6 won't make any more power.

Pound for pound of boost, I believe the RX6 is good for 40-50 more hp.

That said, I think the best STREET turbo available now is the GT35/40.

hmmm methinks if ya want more power, get another rx6, i posted the idea of this once, and turbostreetfighter mentioned that it should be no problem, sooo if ya have a rx6 and ya want more power, be original and get 2 thatz my plan when i get the money

With all of the comments about stock twins making the same power as turbo"X", the simple point of reliability at that power level is often overlooked. Push the stock turbo to 15-18 psi and expect to reduce bearing life EXPONENTIALLY. So yes, the stock can be pushed, not that I ever have ;-) but is simplistic to say they are comparable to any but the most ineptly designed singles. And this doesn't even address the increase thermal load strees associated with the stock setup.

As for arguements that you can increase the efficiency of the stock by swapping out the (insert subcomponent here) I'll defer probabley ad hoc nature of such a design. Clear as mud!?
