RX6 and glowing headers

Thought I might be able to help someone out. After my RX6 install, I was getting outrageous underhood temperatures. Unfortunately, one day I got stuck in traffic and it was so hot it melted my wiring harness. Not cool. After much troublshooting, RP suggested unplugging the airpump. Bingo! While idling, plug in airpump, red header, unplug, stop glowing! Needless to say, now my airpump's unplugged. Out of curiosity, anyone else seen this behavior?

On a side note, that leads to a new problem....clogging my cat. I plan on just replacing it with a resonated midpipe. But how much do I need to correct my fuel maps before doing that? Not looking for a permanent solution, but enough of a correction so that it will be safe as a startpoint for wideband dyno tuning?

never had that problem??? perhaps check ur oil lines to it?? well other than that.. goin to a midpipe wont make u HAVE to change ur maps.. but if u want to get full advantage of the extra power its a good idea... also umight run a tid bit lean...

and as for the correction... i dont really know sorry

Never had that problem because ever since I got my turbo kit I ousted the cat =) anyways, I would think that you would need to completely re-tune your car after you put a midpipe in

Yeah, I plan on giving it a good dyno tune, but in order to get to the dyno (which I'll stay off the boost) and get one run in, I don't need to put any type of correction in to account for the added leanness?

Wasn't sure how much a resonated midpipe would lean the car out over a high flow cat.

You dont need to dyno tune but you do need to make corrections on your power FC. You can run a little lean. It depends on your maps. I changed my pipes and Dave recommended making changes. He didnt dyno tune but he had to make corrections. He can walk you through it if he has ever done work for you.

i think i would make some corrections if i was you...just to be on the safe side...then when i was on the dyno i would lean it out. i would rather be rich and know it then assume that i wasnt too lean and loose my motor. i am in the smae boat as 1fookntitefd i but my midpipe on the same time i did my turbo kit.

Rural Southern Illinois has:

1. No emmissions testing outside of major cities
2. long stretches of wild twisting roads
3. long stretches of wild straight roads
4. hot college girls who like cars
5. hot older female college professors who like cars
6. Ricers who always want to race no matter how badly you beat them
7. Bars where you can still buy a beer for 50 cents everyday
8. Bars where you can buy the best single malt scotch in the world for $6 a shot instead of $26

NOW THAT'S WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT

Tail Happy-

I have the rx6 without airpump and bonez high flow cat. I've been running in this configuration for about 6K miles with no problems. I also run base maps with the pfc. knock is always less than 40, and my tech edge wb02 is always at <=10 at WOT. Temps are usually 88c on the PFC, but will climb to 100 or 102 on the hway. I think it's my FMIC, cause the car cools better when idling. Point is, I think you will be safe to get to the dyno.

Yeah, but FL has an inordinate amount of retirees poking along in the fast lane.... Plus they spearheaded this whole anti-smoking lawsuit bullshit which pisses me off for personal reasons.....

But you about have me talked into SoIll!

Thanks for the reply weaklink...that's interesting. I was hoping I wasn't ruining my hi-flow cuz I'm gonna need it to pass emissions. At least in a couple more years they're going to do away with the sniffer here and rely solely on the ODB2 computer.....totally ignoring cars without those computers. SWEEET!!!! I'm thinking that'll help the resale value....

Feel free to flame me cuz I haven't searched on this one, but is there any consensus on what the best resonated midpipe is?

I had the same problem before removing the airpump.

Airpump is ousted now, pulley kit, and bam, I'm never seeing temps over 89C. Even at the autoX or in spirited driving I'm sitting no higher than ~91C.

no problem, but I don't think you'll pass emissions even with the cat, at least that's what my soot stained bumper tells me. We don't have emissions testing here in Louisiana-WOO HOO!

And how many pounds of boost do you run on base maps? Why don't you get your car dyno tuned? XS is pretty close to you

I run 1 bar boost. Car is plenty rich, don't need much more power. I hate to take it to the edge for a few more horses and risk blowing the motor on a hot day with a bad tank of gas. XS is near Louisiana? I thought it was in CA? RP in Garland, TX is fairly close, but last time I was there they were too busy to really do much. I have been waiting on Don Marvel to get/locate a dyno for me. He says he knows a guy...but he has a lot on his plate, so I don't push it. Car is pretty quick as is.
