Routing Wastegate?

Will routing the wastegaste exhaust back into your down pipe decrease hp and increase turbo lag? Is is more prone to increase spike boosts?

According to Corkey Bell the best way is to run a separate exhaust pipe for the wastegate.

Routing the wastegate exhaust back into your down pipe decrease hp b/c it is interrupting the exhaust system gas flow. I have run the wastegate back into the dp with my old t66 .82 / hks standard wastegate, I did not notice any spike is boost, however I notice a significant loss of power. Since upgrading to more of a serious system I have gone to separate piping. Here is he current set up. Dp is 4"
and the wastegate piping is 60mm.

i believe "corky bell" also stated the farther down the exhaust system you route it back the less it will effect turbo spool overall power. to include having a correct sized exhaust piping to give minimal backpressure post turbo and easing the reroute in instead of ramming it home in a 90 degree t-pipe. <-----that just sounds dirty----

now this is IIRC as my maximum boost never got returned to me when i lent it out...figures dont it. wish they would come out with an updated version of that book

Jerome- Did you notice or verifie through a dyno cause i know alot of honda guys "notice" more power with thier ebay fart can too its just the noise makes it seem faster getts the ol heart pumpin as it were. most people think loud things are fast not neccesarily true

Though in this case he is right, don't take everything he says as "fact".....because it isn't.

Having the wastegate not rerouted back into the downpipe makes the car extremely loud, anyone have any ideas on other alternatives to making the car more quite without rerouting into the downpipe? I currently have a pipe coming off of my wastegate similiar to Jerome, but the car is too loud IMO.

I was researching the same thing and found these ---> http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Not sure if there's any room though if you have a muffller in your midpipe because the body is 3.5"...

I guess another alternative would be to re-route the wastegate dump further down stream...maybe in the midpipe.

Mine isn't my daily driver either, but 30 minute track sessions do take a toll on your ears.

PandazRX-7: Nice Find!! I was thinking of something like that but hadn't found anything. I do run a Borla XR1 in my midpipe, but I could prob. fab/weld some more pipe around it to fit it in there. The big question though will be, how well does it muffle the sound? If anyone tries one let me know.

There is a guy here locally who runs a tube from the wastegate and exiting out of the passenger side sideskirt, it is pretty quiet. Mind you I haven't heard it at full chat.

I wonder how long those will last since they are glass packed. Steel wool packed would last longer. Since fire (or high heat) exit the wastegate pipe on full throttle, I don't think these would last more than a month on the street (depending on how often you full throttle).

Just a thought...

Routing it back into the downpipe makes it much more quite. Venting it to the atmosphere is allowing the exhaust gas to be exposed without being dampened by the muffler. My car sounds like a rocketship when I hit the threshold

Do you notice a power decrease? I keep hearing different opinions on that...I want to plumb mine too because it is too loud...
