REW engine with Holset HX40R
How many of you rotary lovers has tested the HX40R turbo? I have dyno tested a stage 1 streetport motor on my RotoTest today with the following specs:
9:0 rotors, balanced rotating assembly, stage 1 street port on both intake and exhaust. Ported lower and upper manifold with radiused throttle body. HX40R with 60mm inducer and 23 exhaust housing. 3"DP with 3" exhaust system and 2 loud mufflers. 200 mm (7.8") straight pulse split exhaust with 2" OD pipes. .
Greddy 2 row intercooler, HKS twin amplifier, Apexi Power FC,HKS EVC boost controller and some other stuff i forgot right know.
Today we only ran 3 sweep dynamic pulls and made 360rwhp at 6900 rpm and 13 psi
boost. AFRs were in the 11.0-11.5 and leading timing 15 degrees. Yes the exhaust temperature was a little to high at 930 deg Celsius. This was only refernce pulls to dial the Knock Link in and to see how well we mapped the engine on the road. Tomorrow i will tune in more ignition and raise the boost to 15 psi to see what's happening! More to come.

Yesterday we did some static mapping on the RotoTest. At 6000 rpm we have 440Nm or 320 ft/lb at cranc. That,s 329rwhp. Boost pressure was a low 12.5 psi. From 7100-7400 rpm the output was the same 370rwhp or ca 414 hp at cranc, boost pressure still 12.5 psi. Torque at 7100 was 303ft/lb 7400 was 290 ft/lb. Conditions was as follows. Humidity 35% Pressure 1015 mbar. Air temp in engine bay 35 deg C air temp in upper manifold 45 deg C When we turned up the boost to 15 psi we ran into problem with the wastegate, it stuck and boost was raising to 20 psi! Must tear the damn HKS China copy apart today. Hopefully we can do some more run today.

Soon i be at my RotoTest to do some dynamic pulls so we can have some power curves. Then i think the wastegate will stick again so i have to take it apart. Oh i will check the compression with a Mazda digital unit to see if the SRC Apexes is still intact and how much pressure they make. Hope for 7-8 kg or 100-110 psi.

I did a compression check and it was 6.8-7.1 kg or 100-105 psi on both rotors, fine. But when we did a static test at 6000 rpm we lost 30kw rwhp! This was with new NGK B10EGV. Finally we cleaned the BUR9EQP plugs and put them in, better with no misfires at full boost (13psi) but still missing 20kw rwhp! We decided to stop for the day and my friends RX-7 was being driven home. But, where have all the missing hp gone?
