hey guys...
yesterday, after asking somebodu how many psi a 13b n/a can take, i was told that the 13b would not handle any boost.... and turboing the engine would destroy it....
after the positive feedback i've had so far on this forum, i can't help but wonder, is this guy wanting me to have the work done there so he can get more cash??? (he works for a rotary modification shop) or is he being more realistic and concerned about my engine??
he said "the internals are completely different and the non turbo engine would be destroyed"
what're your thoughts?

It would handle boost fine...........Just for not real long and you would have to fabricate an Exhaust manifold or modify a TII one for there was never one designed for a 6port engine.
The difference between a TII 13b and an NA 13b are important when it comes to boost... The TII rotors are of a lower compression then NA. This is important for detination can occur more easily with a higher compression and a higher octane is required for a higher level of boost and compression. Also, the 4 port design of the TII engine can be ported to flow better then the 6port........Since you have an 84-85 13b, it has 3mm apex seals from the factory and is considered an upgrade from the smaller 2mm when boost is involved...
The problem is putting boost to a high mileage engine with high compression....Not that it won't work, just that the seals will not take the stress. And if your going to get a rebuild you might as well go with a TII block. I have seen builders use NA rotors in 4port blocks for power setups but then again you sacrifice longevity and reliability for HP.

Right now I am working on a turbo setup with a carbed 76 4 port 13b... I would imagin you would make more power with the carb and a rb manifold then you would with the stock manifold and the fuel injection setup... more of a pain to get working correctly mabey... you have to mod the carb extensivly I just dont know what all you have to do to it... You make more power with bigger exaughst... gets the gasses out quicker... more power with a more free flowing intake side as well... how much more... well we will see >

i've decided that i'd like my engine to last a little while longer
so im going to have it ported instead.... i'll wait till i can afford a T2 before i have some turbo fun

bottom line is to make big h/p numbers you have to burn fuel.....its simple the more power you make the more fuel you use.....
i had a blowthrough setup on my car and it used tons of fuel, i switched over to EFI and it still uses tons of fuel!!!! the only difference i noticed is im missing about $5,000!!!!!
