A/R a little too big?

i am going to use it on my 1/2 bridge motor once its completed, but in the meantime the Turbo II's stocker is crapping out and im thinking i could use this turbo on it in the meantime. but its a 1.15 A/R. the motor was rebuilt, im need to check to see if it was ported or not. Apperently, it has 3mm seals, so i would presume its was ported if someone as going to go through that much effort. i say this because i hope it will help in spooling the thing.

so is that a little too big? should i look go get another turbo?

1.15A/R is a little big for stock port motor, but if it's ported it wouldn't be too big. It also depends on the application and other end of the turbo.

I would say it is too big if you are looking for quick response time on the street for stock ports. But on a ported motor it would be good. I am not a guru, maybe someone else can chime in.

On the stock ports it will be too big and very late hitting. On a well ported motor it will flow nice.

I have a 62-1 with a 1.15 hotside on a P-Trim with a large street port (on all irons) and large exhaust ports. I see full boost around 3800 and man does it hit hard. I also have port matched everything up to the TB so I'm sure that helps.

I don't think its too large. But I want top end and am willing to lose some low for more up top.

Sounds to me like you are just looking to put something on for the time being. While the 1.15 will possibly spool a little slow on stock ports, why do you care, because it will still drive around fine until you build the motor. Lag is the daily drivers best friend, you can drive the car around all day off boost and save money on gas.

true. the stock turbo is in its death throws. lol it kinda funny really..

between 1k-~4k its basically atmosphereic, then it doesnt really build, it more just goes, BAM! 9-10psi. then it drops down to 6 by the late half of 6k.

I miss read the mean time part in your first post. The 1.15 would be too large for stock ports. But for a 1/2 bridge it would be just right IMHO.

I guess it depends on how close you are to getting a 1/2 bridge motor built up. If you're close get the 1.15, if the project is still some time off then you may want to float other options.

My thought process would be, can I bolt it on with minimal mods? Or do I need to make a new exhaust mani, new IC tubing etc.? If it were too much work I'd just wait.

What kinda turbo was this?

I have a much bigger A/R on my stock port motor and I can hit 15psi before the secondaries kick in. It obviously spools much slower than stock, but as said previously, it makes the car managable around town. So I'd imagine with a half-bridge this turbo will be ideal.

1.15 will work just fine for that setup.

I agree. I have a T04E 1.15 on a stock port S4 engine and the spoolup is very similar to stock, believe it or not. I think its all in the exhaust manifold and exhaust I am running, but what do I care.
Currently, I am only running 10psi on pump fuel, and I can see 10psi in 1st gear by 4000rpm and any other gear by 3500ish. Its very responsive and hard hitting. I went with the P trim 60 wheel and the 1.15 hotside for two reasons...I wanted something to be drivable and have decent spoolup time, but not so small as to restrict the top end for higher boost applications. I think that I will run out of turbo around 18-22psi, but I dont see myself running those numbers on anything less than C16.
