question for you methanol burners out there!

about every two weeks i have to remove my injectors and replace theupper o rings because the methanol expands the o rings. due to the awkward location of my secondaries this is a PITA! do any of you know where i can purchase some orings that will either last longer or are methanol proof? i have already tried the greens and the blacks and they both o the same thing.

thanx in advance

are you leaving the methanol in the car after a race or over night?

have you tried kinsler engineering? they've got everything for a full methanol fuel setup.

even if i drain the methanol some of it will remain in the fuel lines and it does not take much to swell the orings, i cannot get ALL of it out

i will try kinsler

thanx

Get some silicon "o" rings or viton o rings, im running silicon and viton in my rc boats and we run on a mixture of methenol and nitro methene up to 60%. normal black and green o rings will expand in about 2sec with these fuels, the silicon ones do not like wd40 that will expand them.

You could do like the Indy car guys do and run some regular gas thru it when you're done running. It might be a little rich...

i run the car on a daily basis and that gets old quick!! that and it will foul the plugs instantly and you know how much the plugs cost (100.00 a set)? it would be better to just find some o rings that work!

i would have to take a sample down to a shop and get them to match them up,

most bearing shops here in australia will sell the vitons, the silicon ones require a bit of shopping around.
any big bearing shop should have what your after

You can put cheap plugs in it to start it and move the car in and out of the shop. Also you Have to pickle the lines(Run it on gas) every night in my experience. I have worked on a few methanol cars and I have never left Methanol in a car over night. And for the plugs, you know that it is a lot cheaper to warm up and move the car with stock plugs or something close to that. Trust me I know how expensive plugs are, we used plugs that cost more per plug then your whole set. All you will need to do know is make an additional program to run the car on gas depending on what your set up is for fuel management and injector setup.

your plugs cost more than 25.00 each??? if so what are they. i found the correct o rings that are not effected by methanol. on a normal methanol burning vehicle you have to drain after every run but on a rotary with 10oz of premix per 5 gallons the meth. tends to not be so erosive. FYI the correct orings are:

EPR/EPPM and the size is 203

I cannot contribute to the O ring discussion , but , as usual I have a question , has any one tried running streight methanol (only) injection , sort of like an auxillaru fuel supply at higher boost , if so what are the pros and cons of this compared to the MeOH / H2O mixture .
I have the comptete AQUAMIST system 2S set up in my car now , I am just waiting on the reservoir to arrive and am wondering what would work best , by the way , I have an endless FREE supply of the stuff!.

a pro would be you have more fuel to make more power. a con would be it's ******* corrosive as hell.

So that being so , would it corrode the engine internals whilst in vapour form , or are you talking about the actual delivery system ? , 'cause they (aquamist) said that their systems are well suited for any type of alcohol.

the first motor i tried to run with methanol i seized because i did not have enough premix in it! if you plan on burning straight methanol be aware that you need alot of premix. if you are just going to inject it i dont thin it will be an issue.

Would there be any concerns with octane rating , detonation etc ? , because my main fuel would be pump gas and how much boost would I be able to safely ?.

metahanol has a octane rating of 126!!!! detonation will not occur, but on the other hand it will melt everything if you dont kep and eye on your EGT's. boost wise, that all depends on your setup, there is no set standard for boost amount
