Profec B Spec II issue
Well, I got my Spec II a couple weeks ago. It seemed to work really well off the bat. I'd go out, get it set and the next day, it would start surging my boost up and down. I'd play with it again and get it right then a day or 2 later, same thing.
I think it may be my "overboost" limit. The Greddy reads 2psi higher than both my Autometer gage and Haltech. I'd set the limit at 17.5psi knowing my target max boost was 15. I raised this up to 19.5 and the surging stopped. Well, once again all seemed well until I headed to the dyno last week. I took it easy the whole way there to save my fresh plugs(I knew I was a little rich). Just before I got there, I brought the boost up and once again, it was surging. I set the limit up to 21 PSI and it still surged the whole time on the dyno.
I'm going to try and set the overboost limit duty cycle the other way, down to 0%. Right now I've got it cycling 99%. One guy told me I had this backwards for an aftermarket wastegate? This could make since except why wouldn't it do this all the time instead of letting me set it up fine and then change the next day?
I'm running a very low "gain" right now too, like 3%, and my "start boost" is mild at like 8psi.
I'm a little concerned since Greddy went with the same solenoid that the AVC-R uses on the SpecII. A buddy of mine had no luck getting the AVC-R to work with his aftermarket WG. It worked fine for him with the stock WG.
Sorry for being long, Scott

Greddy does mention that the Spec II has problems with quick spooling turbos.
Maybe your .84 A/R is one of those beasts
I did not know that they where using he same solenoid as the ACV-R...are you sure about that?
The old -B was a dual solenoid. Its was very reliable. I have read more than one ACV-R overboosting story

Jeez, I hope I'm not screwed. I had some reservations when I bought this "new and improved" version of the rock solid Profec B. Wonder if improved had to do with Greddy's profit margins???

I have the spec II also in my car.
42%
gain 66%
gain limit .9 bar
over limit 1.1
over limit duty 30%
it does not open the watsegate until it reaches .9 bar
im going to increaseing the gain as it should also help in controlling the boost going up and down.
I dont like that the solenoid is the same one that I had on my old avr that I always had over boosting problems with.
I wish I could connect my old profec solenoid up to it.
I have my gain get to 66%

I run a WHOLE lot less gain. If your running an aftermarket gate, I'll give it a try.
