NEED SOME HELP HERE. I ELIMINATED MY POWER STREEING PUMP AND LINES. BUT IM TRYING TO LOOP TOGETHER THE INLET AND OUTLET PORTS THAT COME OFF THE RACK. BUT NEED THE SIZE OF THE BOLTS OR FITTINGS I CAN USE. IS THERE ANYBODY THAT HAS DONE THIS IF SO WHAT DID YOU USED?
Power steering racks have seals inside of them and when deleting power steering with a ps rack, if you don't remove those seals then you are fighting the pressure inside the rack. You either have to remove these seals or give the rack a means to breath. Will it work plugged/looped? Yes.... but it's causing unnecessary stress on the internals of the rack and unnecessary strain with you as the driver. In my car I cut the lines and left some of it attached to the rack, loosened the fitting and rotated the lines to point down and back. It's open to the atmosphere. I filled the rack with grease through the ports. ideally, I should put little breather filters on the end to keep dirt and stuff out but I don't really care. the lines are pointed in a way that for anything to get in there would require some real effort from mother nature. I have a spare rack that I will be converting to manual so the one i have now is temporary
The best thing to do is to leave the factory lines on there, cut them down enough to add fittings and mount a breather box/reservoir, but BREATHE the system with a fresh air source.
When I did my steering rack, I took it out, micropolished everything, greased the entire setup with EP Grease, and Tee'd the lines to a PCV Valve which acts as a breather. I then added 75w-90 oil to the already greased rack via the lines.
A week after driving it went from "Oh this is nice," to "Holy ****, parallel parking with one hand?"
When you loop the line like this, you'll get a nasty pressure build up the further you get to lock. Do it right, vent it properly.
