so, if you tap equal length runners with WG runners...should those be equal length, and how do you add this length when trying to reach optimum length?

I was looking at that manifold earlier.. Since it's not divided at the turbo flange and they tap the wastegate right below the flange (in the common area), I don't think they needed 2 wastegate runners. Probably stronger than just one tube though.

To try to answer your question though, (layman's analysis) I don't think it's the most important thing to have equal length WG runners since when the WG is closed, the air in these tubes is pretty much dead. A different volume would "compress" differently but unless you have 2 primary runners that are exactly alike and you tap the WG runners in exactly the same place at the same angle, etc.. it's not your most significant factor.

here are some, fully divided. the length is about 21 inches and they are 2 in 304l stainless and the wastegate piping is 1.5 in mild

AWSOME, thanks for all the pics, im now starting to draw something in my head...one question though...from all the pics i saw..it looks like the wastegate has tubes coming from both runners..i take it that this is a must?

I am getting ready to build my own and those pics will help alot. I will be doing a 12a. is it better to have it close to the motor or have the exhaust runners longer? doing it myself I like to look at the welds. some of dim are really nice welds. some of those pieces look like art work.

Im no expert on this subject but heres what I know. You want the wastegate runners as close to the turbo side of the manifold as possible. If it is going to be fully divided then yes you really need to pull off of both runners. Its also best to keep the wastegate runners as clsoe to equal length as you can (assuming the manifold is equal length as well). I dont remember right off hand waht is optimal length for the manifold, but shorter is for higher rpms and longer is for lower rpms. I am pretty sure that between 12"- 18" should be a good range to shot for length wise. Again all this applies to a manifold that is designed to be equal length runners and fully divided.

on page 3 about halfway down there is a big long paragraph that has alot of info, it seems like the end result , was a general opinion, that length has not as much to do with spool/topend as diameter does

Theres a couple before the wastegate tubes and flange were added, made out of 304 3/8 plate flanges and schedule .120 wall weld ells.

Placement of the wastegate runners in some of those pics look pretty bad.

Now, I'm no expert by any means, but it looks to me like the exhaust gasses are gonna have a hard time reversing directions to go into the wastegate runners.....

^Yep, either as close to the turbine as possible(high pressure zone), or placed on the manifold so that exhaust air will flow right into the runners.

So, do the wastegate runners need to be flowing with the primaries or can they point out away from them ?

My manifold will place the turbo in front of the waterpump. Any pictures of that type of manifold ? It will probably end up having 25 inch primaries.

Optimally in the direction of flow, however you shouldn't be building an exhaust manifold around wastegate flow. Besides that you've got a chassis to work with. If you build your complete system correctly, 90deg turns will not affect wastegate function at all..
