Oil Restrictor Size for Holset HX40 and H1E

Hi there guy's can anyone recommend whether I need to put and oil restrictor in my HX40 and H1E oil lines? I looked inside the housing and it looks like they may have restricted the flow internally but I am not sure. Please can someone confirm and if so what size I should use?
If I didn't restrict the flow what would happen? Loose oil pressure and or flow in the rest of the engine?

Thank you
Lee

Mine smoked a bit initially, so I made a .060 restrictor and put it in, no more smoking!

thank you very much chaps! That's pretty small.. I was expecting 2-3mm. that's like 1.6m!

Guy's have either of you measure the oil flow through your holset to check what it is? Holset apparently recommend 2litre/min at idle. Also what size oil drain fittings have you got? It is apparently recommended 19mm ID (3/4") that's pretty dam big and I guess too small a drain would essentially cause the turbo to back up with oil?

Let me know

I'm running -10, so 5/8.. maybe why the restrictor was necessary

Where'd everyone get their restrictors and what's the thread pitch or w/e?

Same for the oil drain part...where'd you all get yours?

Was looking around here, but need to know what would fit my HX40

Just had a thought on the oil drain side.. Surely the drain hole into the block of the FD3 is only 1/2" anway. maybe 9/16" best case.. Did you uy's open up the hole or have you retained a stock size fittng on the bock? Woul dbe good to see a pc if anyone has one handy.

Cheers

I drilled out and tapped the AN adapter in the lathe and threaded in a webber carb jet which either I found a .060, or drilled out a blank one.

I left the oil return stock. I hacked up the stock flange and welded some 1/2" tubing and the -10 fitting on..

Hey man,
I can't answer the question directly but I took mine to a local hydraulic fittings shop and they picked something out.. I have a feeling it's a plain metric thread off the top of my head M10? Measure the OD and get a metric bolt to try. Might be M12?

Good luck

Just found the perfect fitting with restrictor built in, used for a volvo. m12x1.5 to -4an with 1.5mm restriction.

Good find there buddy,
Have you go a part number for it? Is it a Holset part? I made mine using adaptors and a threaded insert so I can unscew my restrictor and change it if need be as I could find no definite size for it.. I ended up going with 1.5mm after trying 2mm and getting smoke! Been perfect since.

What's the rest of your setup? Interested to hear how it goes.. I have currently just run in after a rebuild and mapped at about 10psi wastegate pressure I am getting 305bhp at the hubs. Next plan is to push the boost up a bit!

^just get a metric AN adapter have the end welded up and then drill your hole. Since i have posted last ive opened mine up a bit because of discoloration on the turbine shaft. Cant remember the size bit I used but the hole is around 2-3mm.
