O2 sensor mounting? Help please

Where is the best location for the o2 sensor mounting? How far after the turbo would be ideal?

I was thinking about welding the o2 sensor bung about 18" back from the turbo to stay away from the extreme heat but not sure if it makes a difference.

I also considered mounting is under the car, 36" from the turbo.

What would you all suggest would be some of the pros and cons?

1000hp 3-rotor large single turbo setup running vp race fuel and being street driven!

I will be running a wide band bosch sensor!

I just got my WBO2 bung welded on today. I put it 3" forward of the downpipe outlet flange (right before it goes into the cat). Had to use a hole saw and cut a 1-1/2" hole in the heat shield above the downpipe to allow clearance for the sensor and cable--Fits perfectly.

Everything I found when I researched this topic was to stay as far away from the heat as you can. The stock location is only good for a narrow band O2 sensor. While the NB and WB measure the same thing, the sensors themselves are completely different beasts. Last thing you want is to burn up a sensor and have to get a new bung welded on.

I have a Innovate LC-1 and the cable for the sensor is not that long. The wire goes up thru the shifter rubber and then along the top of the tunnel to the ECU area from there.

FYI: I also put in an EGT probe and it's about 3" aft of the turbo flange.

HTH,

Scott

18" off the turbine will be just fine.

I went to a local exhaust shop and had them weld the bung about 5 inches from the flange downstream of the DP/MP, works beautifully so far!
