Noobie turbo question.....

This is most likely a dumb question to some but I have no idea. In the pic of the chra below, you see the four holes where the compressing backing plate bolts up correct. Well my question is, does oil travel out to this area or is it kept in the middle where the black o-ring is. I believe that is the purpose of the o-ring, but like I said I have no idea and want to be sure. Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes the o-ring seals the backing plate to prevent oil loss. You can actually see the oil drain passage, it is the rectangle hole to the left just inside the o-ring.
