Is the new MVS 38mm wastegate enough???

I have been using it on our kit with good results but my personal setup is different. It does appear to be alot better flowing than the original 38mm, its it actual exit hole is only a little bit smaller than the one on the 44mm Tial makes. I have a .96 Q trim A/R on a PT71GTQ turbo. The car runs around 18-21psi on E85 and puts down between 450-520whp in that range. It is a Renesis.

It seems to keep boost in check fine with our kit's 60mm turbo (P trim, 60mm compressor) with a .84 A/R.

Opinions?

Thanks.

Best regards,

Chris

I was wondering about if 1 would be enough to control boost on my set up....probably pushing it right?

Thanks for the response.

Does anyone else have an opinion on this? I have a Q trim .96 Housing and I don't intend to run less than 14psi. I am on the fence about this...

Thanks.

I would like to add that I found out through a Tial rep that it flows 6% more than the original 38mm through better flow path and a smoother transition. According to him it flows similar to a regular/old tech 40mm wastegate.

Yeah it does flow good.. Will it work for depends on the placement. If you make it a priority i believe it will work fine.. IF it isn't it might not be enough..

The manifold is already made...below is a picture of the manifold. It is already in use.

The renesis has 3 exhaust ports, I am tapping into the two outer ones for wastegate placement with 1.5" diam pipes for each one which is the same pipe diameter as the actual runners. The center one doesn't matter as much because it is way smaller and it is split between the front and back rotor, if you empty out the front and back ports the center one cannot keep up.

Notice how the rear port has a small/tiny bend straight into the wastegate flange and the front port runner (barely visible) simply keeps going to the rear to meet the wastegate flange....it has a side entrace/elbow for the gasses from the front port.

I believe my wastegate paths are pretty straight forward...what do you think?

wastegate placement looks really bad for the pics you posted could you get a closer pic of just the wastegate.

I cant see were you put the gate. I would put it right up the top next to the turbo flange.

The WG goes upside down on that round v-band flange that is visible at the bottom of the manifold under the third runner. It has a smooth transition from the fwd moving gases that arcs it downward and backward slightly to the flange. There is also a pipe from the front runner/port to that same wastegate flange, they both join right at the WG flange.

I don't see where your gate is either.. But i can tell you the best spot would be right after the merge on the 90 degree bend before it goes up to the turbo. So it would be after the merge and straight into the wastegate.
That would make it a priority and that would be the best.. The exhaust could go straight out the wastegate first and will regulate boost the best

The gate goes on that round flange sticking out of the bottom of the manifold (between the rear and middle exhaust ports) in the second picture. The old wastegate was mounted to that with the exhaust port facing towards the back of the car and the wastegate head pointing down towards the floor.

I am actually considering mounting a single 38mm MVS down there...in that location (moving it around is not viable because the RX-8 is tight down there) and if it has boost creep...I will mount a second one in the engine bay coming off the manifold elbow right before it goes into the turbo flange.

Do you guys think this will cause any issues?

Thanks...

Chris

Does anyone else have any input on this? I am getting ready to move on this and need to decide....my previous post explains the location of the wastegate flange...

Thanks to all.
