need to know if its ball bearing or not!

if i post some pictures of a ball bearing turbo could you guys tell if the turbo is balbearing or not.

I just want to someone take a look to see if it is what the guy says!

Easy to tell. You will have oil feed and return on the cartridge, and if you have an additional set of feed and return, thats for coolant.

No, you can have a wet center journal bearing turbo. I've got one sitting in my garage right now.

I'm no turbo guru, I can't tell from the pics.

True, but very uncommon. Mostly on Ebay turbos.

Phantom, you have a BB turbo.

Not uncommon at all.

Mine's an aspec, and you can order wet centers for all kinds of configurations.

Most journal bearing arent water cooled, at least not in the Garrett, Precision, or BW turbochargers.

Phantom, looks like you have a GT42R. Correct?

I havent seen it before on a turbo, it may have been by a shop or distributor.

if it's not water cooled, it's definitely not ball bearing.

if it is water cooled, spin it with your fingers. If it stops almost immediately, it's journal bearing. If it seems to have more inertia and keeps spinning longer, it's ball bearing. I know that's kinda vague but if you compare the two it's pretty obvious.
