Exclamation Need Injector size Opinions w/ Reasons! for Streetport/HX40/TEC3R Build

This is for my 87 TII ... good old Streetported 4-Port 13b.

Running a NEW 7-Blade Water-Cooled HX40 (yes water-cooled), and will be using the 19cm2 hotside w/ a 4" V-band DP. I am still deciding if I will just go with this turbo the way it is or bust out the cash and source the 6-blade compressor wheel setup & a SP Quick Spool Valve for a broader powerband.

I have a TEC3R for engine management and am aiming for 400whp @ 18psi on 91 octane.

Now for my question, I always understood the reasoning for smaller primary injectors was for a smooth idle and low RPM driveability. However, when having a standalone would it even really matter when I have full control over my injectors. I am using a Denso SupraTT Fuel Pump, parallel feed setup w/ s4 rails, and am getting a Synapse or Begi RRFPR (I have yet to actually see a SC004 Universal Synapse FPR) but I am actually hoping to use it, I will be using the Injector Dynamics injectors, or possibly modified STI High-Imp Denso Pink/Blues.

So what would you choose for injectors, and why??

1000cc (x4) - ID1000's most cost effective
OR
2x 725cc & 2x 2200cc - Little/Big Theory, Middle Cost w/ Modified STI Pink/Blues or ID725 in Primaries & ID2000 bad boys for secondaries.
OR
2x 1000cc (x2) & 2200cc (x2) - Most expensive

flow matched 4 x 1000cc with 11mm tops
http://www.injector.com/specs/051000PI.pdf
marren 051000PI

http://www.injector.com/fuelinjectors.php

these are rail fit into s4/s5 rails and manifolds without any need for mods

they are also flow matched and individually numbered so when paired circumvent the normal consistency issues with rochy / multechs

i like them cause the injector lag isnt bad compared to stock and especially the large bosch 1600's

i like them cause the just fit without need for rail mods,, or without need for adapter hats ( like the new bosch's need )

i like them cause to group 4 x 1000 makes the staging formula easy ,, and yet flows past 400 rwhp at 0.70 BSFC

i like them cause the disc spray pattern allows you to remove those annoying plastic atomiser cups if you wish !

i like them cause its easy to get a factory like idle from them !

i like them cause i have recommended them and used them quiet successfully a fair few times now with no comeback !

a SP Quick Spool Valve for a broader powerband.
are you talking about that poor imitation of the factory s4 turbo manifold? Don't waste your time with that crap, just get a fully divided manifold and housing. That's exactly what Mazda did on the s5's. They ditched the OEM "quick spool valve" after 2 years.

You're supposed to use this with an undivided manifold. It's an awful design. At least the s4 T2 had a special turbine housing with two different A/R's for each passageway:

This is just a big *** restriction. I can see it giving some improvement in spool on an undivided manifold, but it's a big restriction up top and it doesn't separate the exhaust pulses. Once you get into the higher part of the powerband you have a divider and a butterfly valve constricting exhaust flow.

isnt the standard 2x850 and 2x 1680cc when upgrading to 500rwhp even?
for 400hp what about 2x850 and hi flow 2x850's out to 1300cc? use no aftermarket rails then.

With 4x ID1000's your horsepower potential will be slightly limited. You can get ~400whp, but much more and you will need to increase base pressure and probably need a pump capable of such pressures. This setup will make staging incredibly easy however. I am unaware of the TEC3r fueling control so I don't know how big a factor this is..

If you're planning on sticking with gasoline and thinking of more power in the future, the ID725's and ID2000's are a good choice. Capable of high horsepower on lower pressure for a good price.

However, if you have E85 in your future, go ahead and bump up to the ID1000's and 2000's.

On all of our injectors, idle will be as good if not better than stock. The 1000's have the same linear low flow as a 36lb bosch 945 injector and we have an N/A running on 2x ID2000's in primary location running a consistent and rock solid .94 lambda idle...

Let me know if you have any other questions. Whichever setup suits your needs, I am sure you will be happy with your purchase.
