Need clutch recommendations
OK guys.. I know this probably is beat to death.
and I did SEARCH. but when you SEarch " CLUTCH"
you literally get hundreds of Post with sets ups and etc.
anyways..
I think my clutch is starting to go..
Want recommendation on clutch set up that can handle
a SINGLE turbo w/ 400+rwhp.
I know the 6 puck can but I heard about issues about
drivabilities.. and wondering if its as bad as people say.
Like people whining about lag on single turbos..
Thanks

I have the Exedy Hyper Single plate clutch with my large port T04S and it works like a dream. All I need to do now it get it properly mapped.
But the one down side is that this clutch is very digital. Either on or off.

I have the ACT 6 puck and it was a pain getting used to, but after a couple weeks you can drive it like any only clutch. It still throws me off when i switch from my FC (stock N/A clutch) and FD.

I've heard great things about the exedy hyper single and multi-plates as well as os-giken multiplates. I will be putting a twin-plate os-giken in my car when i go single... They come with a lightened flywheel too...
i just got a clutch from horse power freaks
seems that is a pretty well built
i still need to test it out .... i mean get my car running

is the 4 puck better/worse than 6 puck?
and curious..
If I bought the parts, Clutch, pressureplate, throwout bearing and piliot bearing.
How much Labor do you think it will cost to install it.??
FD3virgin, I see you in MD, maybev we can order/buy our clutches together
and maybe get a better deal.. Who you gonna have install it???

Exedy is quality stuff, IMO. 6-puck clutches aren't bad at all if you get a sprung hub; an idiot friend of mine got an unsprung 6puck in his civic Si, (because he thought he needed it to hold the mad power) the first time he drove it, he let out the clutch with some rpms and it grabbed so hard it broke all the plastic snaps that hold the plastic trim to the dash, I laughed my *** off.
I've had the ACT clutch plate for about 30K miles. I think its somewhat comparable to the extreme I've had for about 6 years before they called it that and raised the price.
I've run both the 6 puck and the stock disk.
For around town the 6 puck was rough, chirped the tires all the time and tore up the stock flywheel. I probably had it in for about 10000 miles and then took it out to go to a stock disk and replaced the flywheel. The 6 puck grooved the hell out of the stock flywheel, which probably isn't great since the counter weight is built into it. If your drag racing and dumping the cluch from 8K on drag slicks you don't have much choice but an all metal clutch disk if you want it to last or if your doing allot I mean allot of track schools...of course at that point there are a bunch of other things you should do...axle's, diffy etc
I personally like the feel of the act clutch with the stock disk and will probably stick with it until I stop driving the car on the street. I did crack a stock disk doing 1/4 mile passes on drag slicks, dumping the clutch @ 8K :-)...but I didn't expect it to hold up either. On my street tires I probably have 30+ passes of hard launches and I haven't broken my 2nd stock clutch disk....yet. I've got one track school and a bunch of autocrosses on it. It is getting time for a new one because I can tell my engagement is not the greatest anymore but it has served me well. My car has always made around 350 to 375 to the wheels...that used to be allot...lol.
It comes down to how much power you want to handle and how you will use your car most of the time and what sacrifice in drivability you can handle. For me its just easy to pop the tranny off and swap in a new disk if it gets trashed...takes me half a day.
I guess I should mention its probably about twice the force to push it to the floor than the stock clutch but you get used to it ...of course I squat over 300lbs so I don't have a problem with it :-)
I'm about to buy the ZX3-XT00 Kit (Extreme kit with stock disk) I've got a racing beat lighted steel flywheel...This will provide a good mix of both worlds.
Money being no object I'd love to try one of the twin plate setups but gees you could get 3 regular setups for that price. To many things on the list before that.
Also if your replacing your flywheel and you have the chance it's a good idea to re torque your engine bolts...you never know what the last guy did.
My 2 cents
2nd post be gentle :-)

I got a T78 on my FD..
Can the CLUTCH be adjusted??
its strange.. I feel the clutch is on the way out. but sometimes right now
it slips and sometimes it doesn't.
I did a 2gear pull after 5K rpm the tach just went, no GO,
went into 3rd, Same thing.. and I smelled the clutch.
But the other day. IT gripped. went side ways in 2nd and 3rd.
SO go figure.
I probably go with the PUCK style clutch.
I not a whining lil girlie man " Oh the clutch to stiff " and the like..
Just wondering, the diff with 4 puck and 6 puck? what has more BITE??
and what does it mean to have twin plate and etc???
thanks guys.

i suggest anyone w more than 350 rwhp looking for a clutch do a search for:
Exedy Hyper Single.
it won't be a waste of your time.
i have 1870 miles on mine. it will hold 600 ft pounds of torque, is easy to drive around town and has close to stock pedal effort. around $900 w flywheel.
