My results after tuning session with Gaby Skern - 533rwhp

Just wanted to share my results as I have received pm's asking me about my set up etc. Here are the basics of my set up.

Percision 74mm turbo with GTS wheel
Two Supra pumps with individual -6 lines from each to fuel rails.
850/16000 injectors
Port with lots of overlap on motor
Dowled and pinned
Microtech LT8

Gaby first did a few low boost pulls to set a baseline and we ended up with 398rwhp at 15psi. Later we turned up the boost to 20psi, it hit exactly 500rwhp, but we did notice a fuel pressure drop problem. Gaby recommended me to remove my -10 feed line coming off the two pumps, and putting two -6 lines that ran to each rail instead, hoping that would cure my problem. So we did that and strapped it on the dyno a couple of days later. Make one pull and notice the fuel pressure dropping off again. So it was another problem. I ran to my buddy's shop and grabbed two new Supra pumps and quickly swapped them out. And that cured my problem (figured one of the pumps was going bad).

So after a few more pulls, Gaby had fine tuned the car to 533rwhp and 389 torque. He turned up the boost and the computer did not like it since I only have a 2 bar on my Microtech. So he adviced me to keep it there until I upgraded. I'm pretty satisfied with the results considering it's only at about 20 psi (1.4 bar) and it's a street car making reliable 500+++ hp.

BTW the runs were made with about half tank of 93 octane and about 5 gallons of C16.

Congrats Rey. I am really happy that it all came together like that. Tough luck that you had some problems but its nothing that a little more upgrading won't take care of. Big thumbs up to you and Gaby for tying eveything together and making a great little package.

Here'e the biggest question though... to trade or not to trade!?!?! Haha. Gonna have to go for a ride... never been in a FD with over 450whp... and that was pretty impressive.

Yes but there were other issues with the tune, dyno, etc. So I had the "real thing" tune my car this time around. It's a lot better all around now.

Cool. I understand. Still awesome numbers and I wish I could afford it. Beautiful top notch car. Do you have plans to build another 7 one day if you sell this one?

Rey, I'd love to get a ride if you're ever over this way.

Yes, but it will have an extra rotor in it

great numbers Rey...........i've been contemplating the use of seperate lines to each fuel rail. do you happen to have a diagram of how it was all piped together? It would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Here's something that's pretty close to what I did, but instead of using one fuel filter, I used two (one on each line).

No, Gaby didn't even get a chance to get it wired up. Motor is in the car, and everything is bolted up. All it needed was wiring up the Microtech and some other lil things. Gaby will be back in November and December so they should have it done by 2007. Damn, I predicted the car wouldn't be done by 2010, I may lose that bet I can't wait to see that thing on the dyno though. He should make well over 800rwhp.

Rey, What gear was the mapping done in? Your speed is a bit low for a 4th gear pull, thus at a wrong ratio giving an untrue power reading. What do you reckon?

Pulls were done in 3rd gear. 4th gear would read higher.

Great to hear. Why did the mapper not use 4th? I'm not here for a bun fight, but the power figures gained in 3rd will read higher than in 4th due to the gear ratios. 4th is ideal due to 1-1 ratio.

No bun fight, I'm not taking it that way. The tuner does it in third gear for many reasons, but I think mainly because there's less of a "load" on the engine. That way in case something does go wrong, like fuel pressure, the motor has a better chance of surviving. For example.... If he was doing the pulls in 4th when I had the fuel pressure problem, it would of most likely poped the engine since there would of been more load on it. And I have before dynoed cars in 3rd and 4th to see the difference, and almost every time the numbers read higher in 4th.

Yeap, when I've dyno'd with Ralph at Groundzero, we allways did it in 3rd gear. Its just less abuse on the engine. While, it would be easier to tune in 4th i'd guess. I would think in the event that you had a tire fail, driveline, rearend etc. It would be nicer to have it happen at the sub 100mph speed, vs. 140mh. My .02. CJ
