I spoke with Keith today and the first production run is indeed all vent-to-atm. I'm getting one of those so I can get my car back together, but I will need to get the dump tube plumbed back into the downpipe at some point. I made my request for the plumbed-to-downpipe thing a long time ago (before they were officially taking orders for the kit), so it's understandable that it got lost in the shuffle. No worries -- I am sure it will work out okay.

I'm just excited to get my car back on the road. I dropped off some stuff at Mazdatrix today and spent a little time with my car. The engine is assembled and ready to go. I dropped my intake manifolds off for ceramic coating and my injectors off for cleaning today, so I should have everything I need to start getting the car back together in a week or so. After the initial assembly, I'll need some custom work for intake pipes and stuff and then it should be ready to drive. I'll tune it after the initial break-in, probably after SevenStock.

Congrats Max. I can't wait to hear about how it compares to the Apexi on the track.

A competent tig welder should be able to make you a dump tube in 1-3 hours of shop time. Currently I have mine vented, and I must admit it's not as bad as I expected. I was originally planning on having it routed back into the exhaust system in front of the cat, but since the noise isn't so bad I may route it in after the cat to reduce backpressure at wot.

Thanks Chris. I'll be sure to post about it when I get back to the track. I'm sure it will work very well out there.

hey max, do you autocross or road race. i am thinking about auto crossing and having fun on track days. the only problem is how effective is it with a big single turbo. i have a t78 and don't see 14 psi till 3800 rpm. should have gotten the gt35/40. thanks in advance. kevin

I go to tracks for open track events (sometimes for practice, sometimes for time trials; not really racing). But I haven't been in two years due to not having the time or energy lately. I don't want something peaky for the track, so I can stay in one gear for most of it (3rd gear, with shifts to 4th for straights). The dyno curves posted for the R85 look perfect for that. Other track folks run T78s, etc, with no complaints about lag.

I think the stock twins would be best for autoX, but that won't stop me from trying it with my big turbo if I get the itch.

Yeah, if AutoX classing is important to you, read the rule books before ordering mods. I would guess that a single turbo would bump you out of any "normal" classes.

My kit arrived this week. Everything looks great and the turbo (turbine especially) is nice and big . I can't wait to see how it performs.

Come to SevenStock to see it. I dropped it off at Mazdatrix today for them to install it with my rebuild. I didn't take any pics first, but it looks just like the pics on kgparts.com. My pics are notoriously lousy, too, so you aren't missing much.

It's 3". There is a picture of the kit (including downpipe) at http://kgparts.com/R85.htm.

I thought a 3 inch dp was only good for around 500-550rwhp according to Steve Kan. I guess it's good enough for 600 rwhp.

I don't know if a 3" downpipe was used for the 25psi dyno -- the page says that was a pre-production setup and that there would be some changes in the kit form. I would be very satisfied with the 15 psi dyno results , so the 3" downpipe doesn't concern me at all.

Also, Steve may have meant "a 3" downpipe will start to become a significant restriction above 500-550 RWHP". That doesn't mean you can't make more than 550 RWHP with a 3" downpipe, it just means that it isn't ideal. I don't want to put words into Steve's mouth, but that is how I would interpret any such statement.

Sure, you can have a ride. It should be "done" in a few months. It will be running for SevenStock, but it won't be tuned yet, most likely.
