Is my exhaust manifold blowing, or am I just paranoid?
I dont know if I have developed huge rotary paranoia since my car has been playing up, or if there really is a problem, but now I think my manifold is blowing...
At first I thought it was the wastegate leaking, but put my hand over the screamer, nothing. You cant see any soot coming from any blowing parts (even looking from underneath with car in the air), but it sure sounds pretty loud from the manifold area of the enginebay.
Its most noticable below 3k, but thats just as the cars so loud once it starts coming on boost you cant noise anymore.
Can THAT much noise resonate through tubular manifold pipes that are not leaking? Its the usual phut, phut, phut, phut noise in time with the exhaust pulses from the rotors.
Idve thought Id see deposits from unburnt fuel around the leak if it was leaking, but then the flange from manifold to block is so big I guess it could leak there without the soot getting out from the back and visible.
How much exhaust noise can you hear resonating from YOUR manifold area? Is there any way of me checking for sure its blowing when i cant see soot etc without removing the whole lot?
The car has an ERC tubular manifold I think it is, came with it from Japan.
Any advice appreciated

Stav,
raise your car on alift and remove all of your lower covers, lower the car and start the engine jsut as you raise it back up while its still cool enough run your hand around the base flange, header to turbo flange and dp flange. one of them has probably worked its way loose and your "farting" through the gap.
I did not use locking nuts, jsut washers and mine does it occasionally after a good track day. the locking nuts are nice, but when they sit on there for a while, they get permanently locked de to rust and what not and thenyou can't get them off without breaking a stud.
