The people I have asked say use 1 Crane HI6 with a LX92 coil per leading plug. They also said that you can run 2 coils with one box but it is not suggested. When I spoke with MSD on the phone for about 20 mins, they told me to use 1 MSD 7 ignition # 7724 using # 8207 Coil per leading plug. ( BIG MONEY and not needed for my HP application.) This setup ( MSD 7 Series ) is what a lot of top runners at the tracts use ( NON ROTARY ) Road race. I have checked. I don't know about Drag racing

Both setups only address the leading. You can duplicate the setup for the trailing plugs or go a different rout. I plan on using a motorcycle coil ( Twin Post ) and an MSD ignition for the trailing. I stile need more research. My stock setup dies at around 6300 RPM now even with an experimental amp that was provided to me. The stock coils are within spec when tested. I am running very rich though. If I could find a competent tuner for my PFC, life would be easier. I will have to address that problem next. I guess it will have to be me. Don't know how competent though. Maby go boom.

I believe the LX1 is their "street" coil, and the LX2 is their "race" coil. The basic difference is cooling capacity, and I would not recommend running the LX2 for daily driving - as per Crane Cams instructions.

It's funny, but I actually prefer the MSD HVC coils, as these are better coils, but they are not cheap!

one last question. When I installed my unit along time ago, the diagram that everyone was using for the hi-6 said not to connect the blue wire. I have now seen comments to the opposite. What is the propper method for connecting the blue wire? If I put this back in, I want to make sure that everything is the way it should be.
This only affects RPM dependent functions like multi-spark and rev limiters. You're supposed to connect the thin blue wire to +12VDC, as this will toggle the "4-cylinder mode" which will cause the HI-6 to think 360-degrees per RPM - this is the proper setting for the leadings.

Question MSD Setup, What about this setup!

I got this setup from MSD tech.

The ss blaster coils for trailing and stock leading.
a condensor
MSD 6AL
MSD Dis 2 (PN6211)

Has anybody had problems with their igniter. I've had very low spark with my leading coils so I bought I used T2 leading coil to see if this was the problem. I've still noticed not a very hot spark even with the T2 coil. Has anybody had to change their Igniter. If so, where can I get one at a good price.

The setup that I want.

Two HVC coils for the leading
Two SS blaster Coils for the Trailing
Two MSD 6A for the leading
1 MSD Dis 2 for the Trailing.

What do you think?

Thanks for all the help, I said hell with money and decided to do the two msds and two coils. But which coils do I get? Is it the blaster 2 which looks like a cylinder or the hvc blaster coil which looks similar to stock.

MSD setup

I'd go with the HVC II coils. They are a bit pricey, but what the hell. You can get them a summit racing. 129 each I believe.

I'm pretty much in the same boat you are.

See Ya

Does the HI-6 have a rev control like the MSD 6AL?
I have a 74 repu, I wouldn't mind having better spark, and something with a rev control too.
