as a rule of thubm, use the ecu that your tuner is familliar with.

and use the search function to find tons of info on each of those ecu's

Support, availability, tuning issues, etc are all very very important whne choosing an EMS, but when you mention Motec there is only 1 question that need to be answered: Do you roll with that kind of money!?!?

A Motec EMS is about FOUR OR FIVE TIMES the price of those other units! Scary hey?!?!
It is definitely one of the best EMS's out there (if not THE best!), but the price alone is the reason why barely anyone uses them.

What type of mods do you have planned for your car? Be specific and then some people will be more able to suggest which EMS would suit your needs best.

Re: MoTeC?

You can have the most powerful ECU but if you can't tune it right, it doesn't do any good. I would suggest Power FC and Haltec over anything else. There is a lot of support on those two.

I don't know about the power FC considering that there are only a handful of authorized power excel dealers in the US and some of which don't even know how to tune the car at all.

hurinkinsan, how far do you plan on modifying your car and how do you plan on driving it? Out of all the ECU's, the power fc and the tec3 are plug in play, all the other ones i believe you have to make your own wiring harness

TEC3 is not plug-and-play. It's a complete stand alone EMS - replaces the ecu and compelte engine wiring harness.

Isn't plug-and-play a programable ECU that just replaces the stock ECU but kleeps the factory wiring harness and sensors?

i think plug-and-play would be something along the lines of AEM's ecu, which, i belive, does use the factory harness

Technically, "plug and play" would be something like a piggy-back chip where you can run your car after just plugging it in. AEM just uses the "plug and play" label for marketing purposes, as it is really "plug and tune", which puts it somewhere between a piggy-back chip and standalone EMS when it comes to installation and tuning difficulty.

It is usually best to just use whichever EMS your tuner likes. If Tripoint likes the Motec, and you plan on having them help you with tuning, then get a Motec.

I could have sworn that I saw somewhere on the SRmotorsports website that they had a TEC3 unit that could be plug in play.

I know previous versions of electromotive units weren't, but i thought I saw it on ray's site.

oh well, i could be wrong
