I also have a R85, did they change out the compresser housing also? Mine looks different than yours. I don't have any numbers on mine. It also doesn't have the plate on the side like on yours, that the numbers were grinded off. Mine has been powder coated ,don't know if it was grinded off for the powder coating, but has no traces of it, and it has 3 cirlces bumps on it, and it has the plate on the top and has TEC and some # after it. I bought mine used. Just wondering what was changed on the upgrade, i thought it would just be the internals, but maybe not since you have a different cover. How much did it cost? Hope you put out some nice #.

I wonder if you can just buy the compressor wheel and new housing?
my turbo does not need a rebuild and i dont want to pay to ship 40lbs and have the car down while they have the turbo! If i can just bolt on new wheel and housing that would be great

If it was just the housing, no biggie...for the wheel I would send them the center section and have them do their thing.

I will be breaking in my engine and then plan on running 14-15 lbs on the R85,then I'm ordering a alky AI so i can run 28 lbs. Haven't driven it yet, so can't comment on the spool. I read statement some made on here that the turbo is in it's threshold by 2700 rpms. Does that mean it has full boost by 2700 rpms or does it start boosting at 2700 rpms. I also heard that it makes full boost by 3200 or 3700 rpms on a streetport motor. Could somebody please clear this up for a stock R85. Could you also post the same info for the modified R85.

i liked the way the turbo was stock the only reason i modified it was i needed a new compressor wheel anyway and figured i go bigger when it was apart. i have never run more than 15 pounds but i felt it pulled hard it got me to 11.40 @124. after i break in my motor i'm going to run 24 pounds. as far as full boost is concerned i have not driven the car in months and can't really remember exactly what rpm

ok thanks for the info. as far as my tuner says if i end up going with the AI i should be able to push somewhere around 600-620 rwhp but pushing about 25 psi and somewhere within the range of 410-450 rwhp @15psi on 93. i would love to go AI but just not yet i def. wanna get used to the power w/out it first before i go and wreck it when i am not used to that kind of power.

The r-85 stock on a streetport wont reach 600whp Blitzzed maxed the turbo out at mid 500's and at 15psi expect to be below 430whp.

The only other way to possibly break 600 whp on street port and stock R85 is by spraying nitrous, which by then you are Really over spinning that poor turbo and could run into bearing failures and the heat it is generating is going to be really high since the compressor is WAY out of its efficiency range at that point.
By upgrading the compressor to a 66mm without changing anything to the setup, it squeezed 610 whp at 28 lbs with full boost by 4700, which again, seemed to be all it would flow efficiently.
If you try a full bridge port, you will definitely see more whp per lbs. of boost than I did and could break 600 whp, but it was more of a street car, so I kept away from that setup.
